About This Pub

Ah, The Abercorn Arms – it's one of those pubs that really captures the heart of Teddington with its cosy vibe and spacious setup. I have to say, popping in for a pint feels just right, especially with that beer garden that's perfect for a lazy afternoon chat or watching the kids play while you sip on some locally brewed ale. They've nailed the drinks selection, offering everything from cask beers to cocktails, and it's brilliant for catching live sports in a friendly atmosphere – you know, cheering on the footie with a group of mates makes for some memorable evenings. On the food front, it's hit and miss; when it's good, like those exceptional roasts or lamb shanks that folks rave about, it's genuinely delightful and well worth trying, especially if you're hosting an event where the staff pull out all the stops. But, honestly, it's not all smooth sailing – I've heard a fair few tales of portions being ridiculously small for the price, and some meals just not living up to expectations, which can leave you feeling a bit short-changed. Service-wise, it varies; sometimes it's spot on and attentive, but other times there are booking blunders or staff who aren't quite as helpful, which might put you off for another visit. All in all, if you're after a solid local spot for drinks and a relaxed day out, it's a winner, but keep an eye on the food to avoid any disappointments – it's about weighing up those pros and cons for a balanced pint!

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • It's a lovely family-friendly spot with a great beer garden, perfect for enjoying a sunny day with a pint and some fresh air.
  • They've got a fantastic selection of locally produced beers on cask and keg, plus options for cocktails and wine that really hit the spot.
  • The atmosphere is welcoming and lively, especially when they're showing live sports like Premier League football or rugby – it's a proper place to catch the game with mates.
  • Service can be spot on for events; I've heard brilliant stories about weddings and work dos where the staff were attentive and the food tailored just right.
  • Overall, it's a traditional pub with a modern twist, offering freshly prepared dishes that shine when they're done well.
Cons
  • Some folks have had issues with tiny portions for the price, like £9 for a couple of lamb koftas that left them wanting more – it can feel a bit steep.
  • Food quality isn't always consistent; there are complaints about dishes like buttermilk chicken being disappointing or just not up to scratch.
  • Service can be hit or miss – stories of booking mix-ups, rude waitstaff, and meals arriving at different times for the group really put a dampener on things.
  • It's a shame, but a few reviews mention the overall experience falling flat when the vibe doesn't live up to expectations, especially for a casual night out.

Would 1000000% never order food from here again. The size of the starters is a joke and for the price they charge. Couldn’t believe what we were given… £9 for two tiny lamb kofta and tiny bit of bread. £9 for buttermilk chicken which was horrible. £4 for about 12 chips. Not worth it at all.

Our work group uses The Abercorn a lot for social events. On Friday 30th May we got together to celebrate a few recent promotions. The garden is great when the weather is good. The service and atmosphere are generally pretty good too. People enjoyed the cocktails and the Albarino wine (though pretty expensive at £33 a bottle!). Unfortunately, on this occasion general feedback is that the food was not up to scratch, particularly the Mezze and the pizzas. However, the chunky fries I ordered were excellent - hot and crispy.

We had our wedding reception at The Abercorn Arms - and it could not have been more perfect! The staff are extremely attentive, helpful kind, good fun! The food was exceptional - they were able to tailor the menu to our needs and it is quite possibly the best roast we have ever had. Everything was amazing - we cannot thank them enough for providing us with the best wedding day ever! Thanks to all the staff

Lamb shank was amazing, also ales and real ciders were delicious. But would be great to see more cask options.

Booked a table for 8. They couldn't find our booking and left us standing around for 15mins. Everyone's food arrived at completely different times and it was all awful. Waitress was rude and took some food off of the plate of someone without asking when they complained that something wasn't what they'd ordered - she told us the kitchen "had probably run out". We asked for a replacement and ordered "seasonal greens" which turned out to be 6 soggy bits of broccoli in a pool of water. We refunded one of the meals, which was the highlight of the experience.
