About This Pub
So, I have to say, The Abdication really won me over as a proper little hidden gem in Nottingham – it's got that authentic micropub vibe where beer takes centre stage, and they've nailed it with their ever-changing selection of top-quality ales from independent breweries. You can tell the folks behind the bar are passionate about what they do, always greeting you with a smile and sharing a bit of insight into the brews, which makes the whole experience feel personal and inviting. It's steeped in local history too, right opposite an old brewery, and they've got fun events like quiz nights that keep things lively without being overwhelming. On the flip side, it's a compact space, so if you turn up on a packed Friday, you might end up standing or waiting for a spot, and those limited hours mean it's more of an after-work or weekend treat rather than an all-day haunt. All in all, if you're after a place with great drinks, good craic, and a welcoming feel, it's well worth seeking out – just plan ahead for the busier times!
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The beer selection is absolutely spot on, with a fantastic variety of real ales, craft beers, ciders, and even some gins and wines to suit all tastes
-
The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, like stepping into a cosy front room where everyone says hello and strikes up a chat
-
Staff are friendly and knowledgeable, always ready with recommendations and making you feel right at home from the get-go
-
It's got that quirky, neighbourhood charm with events like quiz nights and bike meets that add a fun twist to your visit
-
Dog-friendly and family-oriented, which makes it a great spot for those of us who like to bring the whole crew along
Cons
-
It's a bit on the small side, so it can get quite crowded on busy evenings, making it tricky to find a seat
-
Opening hours are limited to evenings and weekends, which means it's not ideal if you're after a daytime pint or fancy popping in midweek
-
With only five days a week open, you might miss out if your schedule doesn't align, especially during the quieter times

A lovely friendly pub, serving a great variety of local craft ales and cider. Everyone says hallo! Quirky decor!
Brilliant little bar, recommended to me by Os from Kraft werks when I moved up here 5 years ago. First time I've made it in. Brilliant atmosphere, great beer. Great service. Only downside is that it's a little small, but that's the whole point right? Right? 🤣🤣🤣🤣
We very much enjoyed our visit to The Abdication. It was really busy when we went, but still had a relaxed atmosphere. The owners were very knowledgeable and friendly and they both made us feel really welcome. My real-ale-mad friend appreciated the excellent selection of ales on tap and it's dog friendly. A real gem!
Excellent little pub in Arnold with a great selection of well kept ever changing cask and keg. The Redwillow bitter I had yesterday was possibly the finest pint of bitter I’ve had.
Cheese and onion cobs are a fantastic accompaniment to the pub tapas.
Great staff and a great atmosphere.
A very welcoming and unique, small but hidden, jewel right next(across the street) to the old Home Brewery. The place is full of people most of the time. The bartenders and staff are welcoming and there is plenty of novelty waiting for the wanderer inside. An overall beautiful atmosphere and something one may call the authenticity of the city.
