About This Pub
Ah, Tavern & Galley – it's one of those pubs that just draws you in with its welcoming feel, isn't it? From what I've gathered, the staff are absolute gems, always up for a chat and making sure everyone feels at ease, which really sets the tone for a proper night out. The drinks are a highlight too; they've nailed that North East tradition with a cracking selection of local ales that go down a treat. And the food? Well, it's mostly a winner – think hearty portions of fish and chips or sea bass that leave you satisfied, especially if you're after something straightforward and flavoursome. It's also brilliant that they welcome dogs, making it ideal for a casual stop after a stroll along the coast. But, let's be honest, it's not all perfect; there are times when the grub falls a bit flat, like a bland burger or a cold pudding that might make you wish you'd spoken up. Plus, service can be on the slower side, turning a quick meal into a longer affair, which isn't ideal if you're in a rush. Overall, though, it's a solid choice for a get-together – just go in with realistic expectations, and you're in for a good time.

Called in for tea midweek. Staff were really friendly and welcoming. However, the food was quite disappointing. Triple cooked chips tasted like chip shop chips. Burger very bland and sticky toffee pudding was cold. In hindsight, we should've sent it back because we think that they just forgot to heat it up.
Great place to eat. Sea bass or fish and chips, or 🍟. Beer is good too. Lots of choices and plenty of tables. Just a short walk from the beach of whitley..
Repeatedly have Lovely meals... Always busy. Enjoy coming here as can bring our dog after his walk. Great atmosphere and friendly staff. Mixed Veg side plate needs further thoughts as it came with half of cabbage and a few strands of carrots!!! That is not mixed vegetables to me. Other than that the rest was ok.
Amazing food, loads of beers on tap, friendly and welcoming staff.
Visited on a Saturday lunch time and was starving as we had skipped breakfast! Looked at the menu and they do certain dishes in a small portion for a couple of quid cheaper.
We opted for fish and chips, scampi and chips and a Margherita pizza. All of the food was nice and piping hot throughout the meal. We were asked a couple of times how our food was, which was nice.
The pub is dog friendly and there were a fair few owners with their dogs in. We don't mind it.
Only criticism is the drinks are a bit on the pricey side (paid £12.75) for two pints. I can't really blame the pub for this due to increases all round. Just hope this pub carries on in these difficult times because the food is amazing. Will be back!
Excellent Sunday lunch, really good quality and generous portions. Only downside was service was slow and there were long waits for courses (we were there 2 hours and only had 2 courses).
