About This Pub

Ah, Swanny's Bar, it's one of those unassuming spots in Leith that really grows on you once you're through the door. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the place has this warm, community feel where you might get a few curious stares at first, but that soon turns into welcoming chats and a bit of that old-school banter led by the owner, John – he's a real character, from the sounds of it. The drinks are spot on for value, with things like tins of pils that set it apart from the usual crowd, and it's kept impeccably clean with a jukebox dishing out timeless classics to keep the mood upbeat. Plus, there's plenty to do with pool, darts, and dominoes if you're up for a game or two. On the flip side, it's got that very local edge, so if you're not keen on a traditional pub scene where everyone knows each other, it might take a moment to feel at home. All in all, if you're in Edinburgh and fancy a genuine, down-to-earth night out with good craic and reasonable prices, I'd say it's well worth a visit – just go in with an open mind and you'll likely have a whale of a time.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The welcoming atmosphere once you get settled in – it's like becoming part of the family right away.
  • Owner John and the regulars provide brilliant banter and a right good laugh, making every visit feel lively.
  • Incredibly affordable drinks, including unique options like tins of pils that you won't find in many other spots around Edinburgh.
  • Spotlessly clean with fun activities on offer, such as pool, darts, and dominoes to keep things entertaining.
  • A cracking jukebox playing classic tunes in the background, adding to that cosy, traditional pub vibe.
Cons
  • It can feel a bit intimidating at first for newcomers, with folks giving you the once-over when you walk in.
  • Very much a local haunt, which might not suit everyone if you're after something a tad more varied or cosmopolitan.
  • No website or online presence makes it tricky to get the lowdown before you pop in.

Walked in with two friends looking for pool. Very local pub, everyone stared at us as we ordered drinks. The two best players challenged our best player and we all had a laugh. Very like we became part of the family
