About This Pub
Ah, the Sun & Castle – it's one of those pubs that just warms your heart the moment you walk in, with its authentic old-school charm and that inviting Victorian interior full of dark wood and mirrors. I've heard from a few folks that the beers are absolutely spot on, especially the Joseph Holt range, and the special deals make it easy on the wallet for a cheeky night out. What really stands out is the buzz of entertainment; whether it's belting out tunes at karaoke, joining in an open mic, or catching some live music, there's always a lively vibe that keeps things entertaining. It's even welcoming for dogs, which is a nice touch if you're out and about with your furry companion. On the downside, a couple of people have mentioned the male toilets needing some serious attention, which is a pity because it detracts a bit from the overall experience. Still, with its inexpensive prices and that genuine, homely feel, it's a solid choice for anyone looking for a relaxed spot to unwind and have a laugh – I'd say it's well worth checking out for a proper pub crawl in Stockport.

They've got a cracking selection of Joseph Holt beers, including cask ales and keg options, plus some tempting special offers like Fizz Friday to keep things affordable.
-
There's always something lively on offer, from karaoke and open mic nights to quiz evenings and sing-alongs, making it a brilliant spot for a fun night out.
-
It's wonderfully dog-friendly, so you can pop in with your four-legged mate without any fuss.
-
The service is warm and welcoming, with staff going the extra mile to make every visit feel special and memorable.
Cons
-
The male toilets are in a bit of a state and could really do with some updating – it's a downer in an otherwise charming place.
-
It might feel a tad outdated if you're after something more modern or sleek, as the classic style appeals more to those who love traditional pubs.

Amazing pub, been coming here for years and the service is always top notch. Always such a great atmosphere, karaoke on certain nights and also things like quiz night, such a great vibe! I have nothing bad to say about this place. Thank you to all Sun and Castle staff for making every visit memorable!
Nice pub with a good pool table.
A decent enough place that lets you vape indoors, and is just quite comfortable… homely in a rustic sort of way
The male toilets are bloody abysmal though (please sort them out)
Paulicarus has no memory of this pub. I must have been here on the once famous Hillgate pub crawl? ( It was a Tetley pub until the 1990's, so I guess Holt's are responsible for the current super state.) It has a fabulous interior. One of the best in all of Greater Manchester. I also love Joseph Holt bitter and was not disappointed. Also great value pub. My pint, a pint of Holt's Crystal lager and a grab bag of Quavers for £8.65.
It's a real old style of pub but always a great pint.
