About This Pub
Ah, the Old Rectory in Stockport is one of those pubs that just wraps you in a bit of history and homeliness right from the off – imagine stepping into a 16th-century rectory that's been given a fresh lease on life as a cosy spot for good grub and chats. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the food really shines, with folks raving about massive roasts and pies that deliver real comfort on a plate, and those wallet-friendly deals make it even more appealing for a midweek treat. The team behind the bar and tables are a highlight too, always on hand with a smile and quick to sort out any needs, which adds to that warm, community feel. On the flip side, it does get lively and packed, so you might end up waiting a moment for your order, and a few have mentioned that portions aren't always as generous as you'd hope, leaving you a bit peckish. All things considered, it's a reliable choice for a laid-back evening – whether you're popping in for a drink or a full meal, I'd say it's worth a visit if you're local or just passing through, as long as you keep expectations realistic for a proper, balanced night out.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The food is absolutely spot on, with hearty options like turkey roasts and mushroom and ale pies that leave you feeling satisfied and wanting to come back for more.
-
Staff are incredibly friendly and attentive, like Joe and Jack who go out of their way to make sure everything runs smoothly and you have a memorable time.
-
It's got a lovely historic charm as a 16th-century rectory, making it a perfect spot for a relaxed meal with family or mates in the heart of Stockport.
-
Great value deals, such as tucking into selected dishes for just £10 on weekdays, which makes it an affordable choice without skimping on quality.
Cons
-
It can get quite busy at times, leading to a bit of a wait for food, even if the service is generally top-notch.
-
Some portions might feel a tad small, like the chips with the steak, leaving you wishing for just a few more to round off the meal.
-
While it's a solid venue, the overall feel is good rather than outstanding, so it might not wow you if you're after something truly exceptional.

Great food and great service. Joe was a superb host and did everything he could to make sure our order was taken quickly and correctly.
The turkey roast was huge and I cannot recommend the mushroom and ale pie enough.
Small wait on food but this was fine as the place was really busy. Recommended 👍🏻👍🏻
Honestly amazing Jack and Joe where there from the start to greet everyone that walked in. They made everyone have a unique and special time while in the pub/restaurant. Jack made sure we had everything we needed as we sat down and Joe was on the bar ready to serve us as soon as we was ready. Special mention to the chef of the day( sorry we forgot to ask his name) but the food was amazing. Jack and Joe both made sure we had a wonderful time and then was there to say goodbye as we was leaving. Honestly they were both stars and set a great example for the pub.
had a really nice meal with my family !! frankie and joe served us and were so friendly, and the food was so tasty. nice place to sit eat and chat, especially if you’re local. would definitely recommend!
Had a fantastic breakfast here one morning. It was that nice and the were that friendly we decided to come back for a steak. Their rump steak was perfect, I was a little disappointed with the number of chips you get but after the massive steak it was just enough, but it's nice to be greedy. Super friendly staff every time we have been nice. Super clean and beautiful building. Oh and candy ice cream desert was so good !!
We booked the Old rectory for our Christmas do. So glad we did. Table for 20, beautifully laid out. We chose from both the Christmas and the normal menu. We all paid separately and it was seamless. Great food, for all 3 courses and we all had different meals. Kelsey and Craig were brilliant, looked after us really well and everyone enjoyed their meal. Would definitely recommend. Thank you.
