About This Pub
Ah, Story Book – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a warm hug when you walk in, especially if you're popping by for a carvery or a casual drink. From what I've gathered from the buzz around, the staff are genuinely ace, always ready with a smile and top service that makes you want to come back; folks have raved about Tanya and Chloe being particularly helpful and welcoming. The food's a highlight too – that daily carvery with succulent meats and fresh veg is proper satisfying, and it's wallet-friendly, perfect for a family treat or a mates' meet-up. They've got all the nice touches like a beer garden for sunny days and soft play for the little ones, so it's great for all ages. On the flip side, it's not all roses; I've heard a few mentions of the potatoes being a tad undercooked or hard, which can put a damper on things, and it does get heaving at times, so planning ahead is a must if you don't fancy queuing. Overall, it's a solid choice for a relaxed outing in Boldon, with more highs than lows, and I'd say it's worth a visit for the good vibes and grub, as long as you keep expectations realistic.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The staff are absolutely lovely and welcoming, like chatting with old mates behind the bar – shout out to Tanya and Chloe for making everyone feel right at home.
-
The carvery is a real winner; fresh meats, crispy potatoes (most of the time), and those Yorkshire puds are spot on, offering great value for a hearty meal.
-
It's super family-friendly with a soft play area, beer garden, and indoor activities, making it a brilliant spot for a relaxed day out with the kids.
-
The atmosphere is just right – not too packed, so you can enjoy a peaceful pint or a cheeky cocktail, and they've got loads of facilities like WiFi and a car park for convenience.
Cons
-
Some dishes can be hit or miss, like the potatoes turning out a bit too hard now and then, which is a shame when the rest of the food is so tasty.
-
It can get busy during peak times, such as Mother's Day, so you might have to book ahead or deal with a bit of a wait, which isn't ideal for a spontaneous visit.

Drinks were good, atmosphere was spot on, weren't overly packed so I liked the peace. Service was brilliant. Staff very friendly. Dinner was great, the Yorkshire puddings were stunning and I loved how they have calorie counted all the food on the carvery. But the potatos were super hard even tho they looked so nice. I couldn't eat them. Mash was super tasty. I came before this too for the soft play. Soft play is 5 pound a child for 90 minutes and it was super affordable. Drinks on the other hand for a coke or bottle of coke was 3.10 or 3.30 if I remember rightly. Bit of a rip off. And it was super noisy but what soft play place isn't loud lol. I'd come back and defo try something else on the menu
Tanya the barmaid made our visit very welcome. Excellent customer service skills would highly recommend anyone to visit here. Carvery fantastic for price. Food very reasonable and is lovely. Ultimate mixed grill is excellent value for money. Would highly recommend a visit to here.
