About This Pub
Ah, The Red Hackle – it's one of those pubs that just warms your cockles from the moment you walk in. From what I've gathered from the reviews, the staff are absolute gems; they're always up for a chat and go out of their way to make sure everyone's looked after, whether you're a regular or popping in from somewhere like Vancouver or Scotland. The drinks are reasonably priced and spot on, with cold pints that hit the spot after a long day, and that community feel is spot on – it's like stepping into a proper local hub where folks are friendly and inclusive. On the flip side, it's a straightforward sort of place without any flashy online setup, so you might have to rely on word of mouth or a quick Google to find out more. And while it's brilliant for a relaxed evening, if you're after something a bit more upscale or with heaps of food options, it might not quite hit the mark. All in all, it's a solid choice for anyone wanting a genuine, down-to-earth pub experience in Jarrow – I'd say give it a go if you're in the area, as the positives really shine through in the feedback.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home, even if you're an away fan or visiting from afar.
-
It's got that proper community vibe, where locals are chatty and inclusive, turning a simple visit into a proper good time.
-
Drinks are dead affordable – think £3 for a bottle of Newcastle Brown – and they're served cold and spot on.
-
The atmosphere is warm and cosy, perfect for a relaxed pint or a catch-up with mates, with quality beverages and a welcoming feel.
-
It's open every day from 11am to 11pm, so you can pop in whenever the mood strikes, no matter the day of the week.
Cons
-
There's no website or online presence, which makes it a bit tricky to check details or get updates before heading over.
-
As a typical estate pub, it might feel a tad basic if you're after something more fancy or with extra amenities like a big food menu.
-
Being quite local, it could be off the beaten path for those not in the Jarrow area, so you might not think to visit unless you're nearby.

Great pub. Proper pub. Was here as an away fan. Staff were great couldn't do enough for us. Loved it
Lovely local community public house.
Owner was so friendly as were the local customers (even though I was Scottish and not a local!)
Bottle of Newcastle Brown £3!!
Would highly recommend if ever in the area.
Always a great pub. Nice crowd and the bar staff remember you when you come back next time.
Got a warm welcome visiting from Vancouver, Canada. Typical English estate pub with very friendly locals. Lee, the owner / manager is a top notch friendly bloke. Sarah and the other bar staff are friendly with good attitude. The pints are cold and very reasonably priced. Drank a few John Smiths with pork scratchings. There is a pool table and a jukebox that was playing nice 70s tunes like Smokey. Very friendly people. I got gifted the pub shield which is in the pic attached. Keep at it, you wonderful Geordie lads and lasses -- great pub!
my favourite place for a drink in the whole of NE England
