About This Pub

You know, I've got to say, Steels Corner House really warms the cockles with its no-nonsense approach to British classics, especially that fish and chips that's been a staple since 1946. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the food's a winner – fresh ingredients, a lovely crispy batter on the fish, and portions that make you feel you've got your money's worth. The staff come across as genuinely polite and caring, which makes for a pleasant sit-down, even if things get a bit hectic. It's got that homely, old-school charm that reminds you of proper British eateries, but honestly, not everyone's going to love the dated furnishings or if the chips aren't quite as golden as hoped – one mate mentioned it didn't quite match up to their favourite spot. Still, with such high praise overall, it's a solid choice for a relaxed meal out, and I'd reckon it's worth a visit if you're in Cleethorpes and fancy something hearty and reliable, just maybe go in with realistic expectations for the little niggles.

Pros and Cons

  • Staff are lovely and attentive, making you feel right at home with their friendly service and patience, especially with families.
  • It's got that classic British charm with its long history since 1946, adding a nostalgic vibe to your meal.

  • Open seven days a week with straightforward hours, so it's easy to pop in whenever the fancy takes you.
Cons
  • A few folks reckon the chips aren't always as perfectly cooked as they'd like, sometimes falling a bit short of expectations.
  • The furnishings have that older, traditional feel, which might not suit everyone if you're after something more modern.
  • It can get busy, so you might have to wait a tad or deal with a lively atmosphere if you're not in the mood for it.

Came here on a day art to cleethorpes wi mi gurt, popped in coz mermaid wa closed and this had better reviews (crazy coz mermaid the GOAT) frankly, not as good as mermaid, however the fish was flaky, very well cooked and yummy, good fish to batter ratio however the chips could have been cooked a little longer which knocked em down a star but that’s only the gripe I have, gravy wa banging and condiments were all perfect, currently writing this while waiting for the bill which is taking a while so knocked em down a star for that too, although when we first arrived it was quite busy and they did take our order quickly. It’s not now though. All in all, good restaurant, would come again assuming mermaid is closed.- written by dylan, Hannah’s boyfriend (she told me to Specify because she doesn’t like being critical)

My family and I had a wonderful dinner here at Steeles. The fish was flaky and firm and in a really good crispy batter. Delicious chips and, of course, mushy peas. We had awesome service from Nicole, who was very patient with the kids' indecisiveness. Steeles has been here for generations of my family and deservedly so. It MUST be your choice for fish and chips when you're in Cleethorpes.

The fish and chips were incredible. Lovely crisp batter, beautiful fish and perfect chips. The waitress we had was polite, charming and looked after our needs exactly, without being intrusive. Older furnishings, but that added to the charm. Busy place but not overcrowded with tables. The person on the next table ordered a mixed seafood platter, that looked scrumptious, with haddock, salmon and prawns. Highly recommended but make sure that you leave space for me so that I can visit again!! 😊
