About This Pub

Ah, Soul in Aberdeen – it's one of those spots that really captures the imagination, tucked away in what was once a beautiful old church. They've transformed it into this trendy haven with clever touches like a DJ booth in the former pulpit, making every visit feel a tad special. The food and drinks are where it shines; think tasty starters, mains that hit the spot, and cocktails that are just the ticket for a relaxing evening – oh, and that rocky road cheesecake is something else, absolutely worth indulging in. The outdoor garden area with heaters is another plus, perfect for enjoying a drink under the stars without braving the Scottish chill. But, let's be honest, it's not all smooth sailing; I've heard from a few mates that service can drag on, with waits for even simple things like refills, probably because they're stretched thin in the kitchen sometimes. Still, with such a high overall rating, it's clear the good days outweigh the bad, so if you're heading out for a night with friends, I'd say give it a go – just pop in when you're not in a hurry, and you'll likely have a whale of a time.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • They serve up some cracking food and drinks, like delicious cocktails and standout desserts such as the rocky road cheesecake.
  • The outdoor seating area with heaters is a brilliant spot for al fresco sipping and dining, even when the weather's a bit nippy.
  • When the staff are on form, they're friendly and attentive, making you feel right at home.
Cons

  • It's on the pricey side, so it might stretch the budget if you're planning a casual night out.

Visited for lunch Thursday 24th April. Booked a table for two in advance. Roxanne attended to the pre-booking call and all our needs at the venue. We had starters and a main course each. My wife was tempted with the Nachos starter-large potion and I sided with the Cullen skink soup-tasty but not very hot (a slight negative). We both had the fish and chips for our mains-absolutely delicious. They have a plethora of draught lagers and beers. I tried two different lagers which met my needs. The experience was made all the better as Roxanne was very friendly and made sure that we were well catered for at all times. She is a credit, and was a breath of fresh air-a great ambassador for the establishment-prime reason for the 5* rating. I only rated the atmosphere as 4* as there were only a handful of customers at the venue. Would definitely recommend for a spot of lunch, I suspect it would be quite busy on Friday/Saturdays so probably best to book in advance.

Such a let down. The location and environment is amazing. However, the service was horrible. 30 minutes to get our starters Another 30 minutes to get water refills Another 30 minutes to get our food The manager finally apologized after 80 because they only had one chef in the back. I can appreciate being short staffed in the kitchen, but how does that keep you from communicating and getting refills before an hour? The food was good enough but the seasoning was super inconsistent. Fish and chips needed salt. The chicken fajita was overly spicy. The pizza needed salt. The steak was overcooked. The Mac n cheese croquette had zero flavor. The highlight was the caprese skewers which were absolutely delicious! Huge let down and I would suggest people find another place to eat in Aberdeen.

This place is really amazing it's a bar in an old church with stunning glass windows. Seating area outside with heaters. We stopped for a cocktail my husband had a Bloody Mary I had an Aperol Spritz. Both cocktails were lovely staff were great. We sat outside and it was a lovely spot to watch the world go by. Would definitely go back. Has clean toilets.

OH. MY. GOODNESS. Run don’t walk here, the drinks, fish and chips, and rocky road cheesecake were some of the best things we’ve eaten while visiting Scotland. I cannot stress this enough, GET THE ROCKY ROAD CHEESECAKE! I will not be eating any dessert other than this for the rest of my life!!
