About This Pub
You know, chatting about Prohibition in Aberdeen, it's got that promise of being the city's biggest party spot, open most nights for a bit of dancing and drinks without breaking the bank. From what I've gathered from the buzz online, it's got some charm if you're in a group and ready for a lively atmosphere – imagine skipping the queue with a pre-booked booth and diving into the fun. But honestly, it's not all smooth sailing; a lot of people are moaning about the door policies, like getting refused entry just for rolling up solo or not having your passport to hand, which seems a bit daft when other IDs should do. Then there's the bouncers – stories of them being a tad aggressive have me thinking twice, as no one wants to deal with that after a long week. Overall, while it could be a cracking choice for a budget-friendly bash, the negative vibes from recent reviews suggest it might fall short on the friendliness front, so I'd say give it a go if you're prepared, but keep your expectations in check and maybe have a backup plan for the night.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
It's Aberdeen's biggest party venue, so if you're up for a lively night with friends, it could be just the spot for some proper craic.
-
Priced inexpensively, which means you can enjoy a few drinks without worrying too much about the wallet – always a bonus for a casual outing.
-
They've got a good online presence with links to social media, making it easy to check out events or book a booth ahead of time.
Cons
-
Entry policies are a right faff; some folks have been turned away for being alone or not having a passport, which feels a bit over the top.
-
Bouncers come across as aggressive in reviews, with stories of being pushed around or treated poorly – not the welcoming vibe you'd hope for.
-
The atmosphere gets slammed as depressing, and service is often described as shocking, leaving you wondering if it's worth the hassle.
-
Recent reviews paint a pretty grim picture, with most giving it just one star, so it might not live up to the hype for a fun evening out.

I was refused entry because I was alone, even after showing my passport. What kind of policy is that?

We were always allowed entry at PROHIBITION by showing the digital barcode on our BRP (Biometric Residence Permit), which is a valid government-issued ID. But now they’ve suddenly started demanding a passport to enter — which makes no sense at all. It’s unreasonable to expect people to carry their passport around just to enter a place. Who carries their passport everywhere? It's not safe or practical.
What made it worse was the way security spoke — being told I must show a passport or UK driving license to enter was honestly insulting and unprofessional. A BRP is legal identification, and this kind of treatment feels discriminatory and unfair.
Please reconsider this policy. It’s not just inconvenient — it’s disrespectful to law-abiding residents.
Probably the worst place I have been to, not only one of the many most depressing places in Aberdeen, the service was just as shocking as Aberdeens nightlife in general, at this point I feel sorry for Aberdeen locals if this is as good as it gets, maybe you should visit Liverpool for some inspiration.
Not a nice place to go as a tourist, bouncers are so difficult to treat, they will exclude you as they wish to, better places are to go with gentle people!
... Reply: I DID have an ID, your place deserve that star until you change your admittance policies!
