About This Pub

You know, I had a great time at the Shropshire Arms in Chester the other week, and it's exactly the sort of pub you'd want for a laid-back evening out. The staff are so approachable and make you feel like a regular from the get-go, which really sets the tone for a pleasant visit. Prices are fair too – nothing over the top, so you can enjoy a few pints without worrying about the wallet. They've got a solid range of beers and ales, and it's brilliant for catching live sports or joining in on events like karaoke; there's always a bit of buzz without it feeling overwhelming. On the flip side, it's not the place to go if you're peckish, as the focus is firmly on drinks rather than a full menu, and it can get a tad rowdy when things liven up, which might not suit everyone. All in all, it's a reliable spot for a good old chinwag and a refreshing drink, and I'd definitely recommend it if you're in the area and fancy something unpretentious and enjoyable.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home as soon as you walk in
  • Prices are spot on – you get decent value for your money on drinks without any nasty surprises
  • It's got a lovely, relaxed atmosphere that's just right for enjoying a pint, chatting with mates, or watching the big match
  • Wide selection of beers and ales, including some nice options for ale lovers
  • Regular events like karaoke and live sports screenings add a fun community vibe to the place
Cons
  • It's more focused on drinks than food, so if you're after a proper meal, you might need to look elsewhere
  • The pub can get a bit lively and noisy during events or matches, which isn't ideal if you're after a quiet night
  • It's a straightforward traditional spot, so if you're in the mood for something fancy or modern, it might feel a tad basic

Great little spot. We were in here several times during our recent weekend in Chester. It was never packed but never dead so there was a nice atmosphere to enjoy a few drinks while watching the match.

Found this place doing karaoke on a bank holiday Sunday night. Decent prices, decent crowd, decent atmosphere. All round can't complain, nifty little boozer if you're in the area and in need of refreshment. Can't comment on the food, drinks tasted as they should.

Proper old school pub near the centre of Chester. We came in here on a Saturday during a televised football match. The place was busy and loud with loads of people drinking and chatting, I loved it. There was a wide selection of decent beers and the prices were good too. Nothing poncy or upmarket about this place, which is why I liked it so much.
