About This Pub
Ah, the Sand Dancer – it's one of those classic pubs that really captures the essence of a day out by the sea in South Shields. Picture this: you're sitting with a refreshing drink in hand, gazing out at the waves, and the sun's just right – it's got that effortless appeal that makes you want to linger. The menu's got a good mix of options, from hearty meals to quick bites, and if you're with your dog, they'll make you feel right at home with their pet-friendly setup. The staff are often spot on, adding to the warm, welcoming feel, and with live acts popping up, there's always a bit of buzz in the air. But, let's be straight, it's not all smooth sailing; I've heard a few tales of service that could do with a smile, like getting a coffee with a side of attitude or food that's not quite up to scratch. Noise from the furry visitors can ramp up too, and there are those odd hygiene hiccups that might make you think twice. All in all, with a solid 4.1 rating, it's worth a visit if you're in the area – just go in with your eyes open and you'll likely have a grand time.

Friendly bar staff and a bit of history to the place, adding that extra charm for a proper pub feel.
-
They host great acts and events throughout the week, keeping things lively without being overwhelming.
Cons
-
Some folks have had issues with food quality, like overcooked dishes that don't quite hit the mark.
-
Service can be hit or miss, with a few reports of rude attitudes from staff that put a dampener on the visit.
-
It can get a bit noisy, especially if the dogs kick off, which might not be ideal for a quiet chat.
-
There have been mentions of hygiene slip-ups, such as dirty utensils, which is a shame in an otherwise tidy spot.
-
That CCTV placement in the restrooms feels a tad intrusive and unnecessary, leaving some feeling uncomfortable.

I ordered poached egg and avocado, but the egg was overcooked, hard, solid. The knife was dirty. The location is nice.
Stopped here for a large black coffee to be rudely told by a young female server they only do one size which is fair enough, but absolutely no need for the attitude. The coffee came in a small coffee cup just above half full! and she clearly did it on purpose for no reason. I always stop by here for food and drinks when I walk South Shields beach with the dog, unfortunately this is the last time and will be taking my custom elsewhere where I get better customer service and value for money.
Very nice and clean pub didn't eat here so can't comment and very near the beach the only down fall is its a dog friendly pub and once one started barking they all did a bit noisey then but if you've have dogs you will probably be use to it
A gem of the South Shields coastline. A warming and welcoming pub with a fantastic layout, great views of the sea, great selection of drinks and an outstanding menu. Friendly bar staff, great acts that are on throughout the week, and a true South Shields landmark. Dog friendly with its own dog menu, free water and free treats, and on any given day and time, it’s populated with dog walkers or people just bringing their dogs down while they have a quiet pint. It’s not my local in terms of distance, but I’ve made it my local and get down as often as I can, with my wife, children and dogs. During summer time, the outside terrace is a joy, sitting in the sunshine with a cold pint, taking in the views and watching the world go by. Definitely recommended and credit to the current management for making it the outstanding place it is today. May it long continue.
This is a historic pub, it's been here for ages. It's a good place to meet up and have some drinks and food. The menu is good and varied. The drinks were reasonably priced. They lost some serious points for having CCTV directly over the men's urinals.
