About This Pub

Ah, SALT in Darlington – what a gem for anyone craving some elevated street food with a cosy bar feel. I've got to say, the burgers and sides are spot on; they're packed with flavour and really make the meal something special, like those cheesy garlic fries or the bao buns that folks rave about. It's a lovely place to kick back with mates, enjoying the comfortable setting and that global twist on the menu – think tacos and Korean chicken that keep things exciting. But, let's be honest, it's not all perfect; you might find yourself waiting a good while for your order, and sometimes it turns up a bit cool, which takes the edge off. Plus, the portions can be on the smaller side for what you're paying, and with them only opening evenings a few days a week, it's easy to miss out if you're not organised. Still, with such a solid overall rating, it's well worth popping in if you're nearby – just go in with realistic expectations and you'll likely have a great time.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely delicious, with standout burgers and sides that really hit the spot.
  • Friendly service that makes you feel welcome, turning a simple meal into a pleasant experience.
  • A comfortable and relaxed atmosphere, perfect for unwinding with a drink and some global-inspired street food.
Cons
  • Wait times for food can be quite long, and it might arrive cold, which is a bit disappointing.
  • Portions can feel a tad small for the price, leaving you wanting a bit more bang for your buck.
  • They're only open a few days a week in the evenings, so you'll need to plan your visit carefully.

Went on Friday took just under an hour for the food to arrive which I wouldn’t mind if it’s all fresh. When the food arrived both burgers were cold but didn’t want to wait any longer for a fresh one.The food was amazing and worth every penny. No staff came over to ask how the food is,asked if we wanted anymore drinks or bring the bill over.We ended up going upto the till to pay and noticed how much the staff were rushing round and I really felt sorry for them.I think the owners really need to consider getting more staff to keep up with the demand. It would have been a 5 star review but the service really let it down.

Really comfortable venue. The Two Time burger is pretty good. Like 6.8/10. - nice bun - salty - burger is quite smashed so it's crispy - a slice of tomato or gherkins would cut through the richness Check your bill before paying...

We dropped by without a reservation and had little expectations. We absolutely loved the place. Delicious burgers and sides. Disappointed, however, that the Mac and cheese bites and lasagne bites weren’t available. The friendly service and the great venue definitely made up for this. One of the best burgers we’ve had in a very long time.

Salt is absolutely marvellous. It's hard to describe the vibe of the menu, but you'd probably say "elevated street food". They have offering from around the globe, my usual favourite being the tacos ofcourse :) Portions can be a little small for the price, but the quality is undeniable, proven in the taste! The building itself is spectacular, with the full aspect front window, and the large mezzanine level, which gave an almost private-dining experience. Drinks/cocktail menu was small but provided exactly what you'd expect and need. Off menu offerings were also catered to. Oh, and there's a swing seat in the ante-room. A perfect venue for something a little more unique, in a town almost plagued with average establishments.

Wow. First visit. We will definitely be back. Amazing burgers. Cheesy garlic fries were delicious. We also had the bao buns, Korean chicken and pork belly. They were so good! Great place to chill and eat. Loved the No Face dotted around for Studio Ghibli fans...
