About This Pub

You know, when I think about Salt on the Harbour, it really brings a smile to my face – it's one of those places that captures the essence of a classic British seaside outing. Tucked away on the Yorkshire coast, it's all about that fresh, locally-sourced seafood that hits the spot every time, whether you're going for the fish and chips or tucking into a hearty Sunday roast. The views over the harbour are just gorgeous, making you feel like you're on holiday without even leaving the table. The staff are genuinely lovely, always on hand with a friendly chat and little touches that make you feel right at home, like sorting out the dogs with treats. But, let's be honest, it's not flawless – I've heard a few mentions of tables being a bit sticky, which is a shame because the rest of the place is kept nice and tidy. Overall, it's a solid choice for a family get-together or a relaxed meal with mates, and with such positive vibes from recent visits, I'd say it's well worth a try if you're in the area, just keep an eye on those opening times to make sure you don't miss out.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely top-notch, with fresh seafood dishes like fish and chips that are made to order and packed with flavour – it's a real treat for anyone craving a proper seaside meal.
  • You've got stunning harbour views from the tables, making it feel like a proper getaway, even if you're just popping in for lunch.
  • The service is spot on, with friendly staff who go the extra mile, like providing water and treats for dogs, which makes it welcoming for families and pet owners alike.
  • It's a clean and family-friendly spot, ideal for a relaxed day out, with a cosy atmosphere that suits everything from a quick bite to a full Sunday roast.
  • Portion sizes are generous and everything's cooked to perfection, leaving you feeling satisfied and ready to come back for more.
Cons
  • Some tables can be a bit sticky, even though they're cleaned regularly, which might put a slight dampener on things after a lovely meal.
  • The operating hours seem a tad confusing from what I've seen, so it's worth double-checking to avoid any disappointment if you're planning a visit.

Best Fish and Chips in town!!! Nice tables with view onto the harbour. Tables are slightly sticky but clean, as we saw it being cleaned, while waiting for our table. I will never understand why the cleaning of pub and restaurant tables is done by spraying product on it layer over layer and then just wiping over and letting it dry. It just leaves a sticky layer of cleaning products. Sadly the staff was not very well informed. Before ordering i asked if there was anything not available out of the menu and we were told we could order anything, so we placed the order. 10 Minutes later we were told, that the steak we ordered has run out. Why not asking the kitchen before, especially if you don’t know when asked. When we arrived we felt a bit like we were not very welcomed either. No smiles, no friendly words from staff members, just doing their jobs. Great food though (that’s what the five stars are really for), but customer orientation, … i am not so sure of.

Reserved a table for Sunday lunch. From start to finish everything was excellent. Oysters, whitebait, chowder, fish and chips, mussels followed by gorgeous ice cream sundaes. All amazing. Great service from the team with water & dog treats provided on arrival. Thank you for a lovely meal

We've just experienced the Sunday lunch for the first time with the family. Absolutely blown away by the quality of the food and portion sizes. Everything served to us was cooked to perfection! Hats off to the chef Richard, the best Sunday roast we have ever had! Can't wait to return 😀😀😀

Hi. We came to the restaurant on Friday night with my relatives that were visiting from Scotland. There were 8 of us and all 8 dishes were absolutely delicious. The meals we had ranged from scampi, fish and chips, steak, pork tomahawk and seafood Thermidor. They were all cooked to perfection! The staff- I couldn’t compliment them enough. The waitresses and bar staff were very attentive and polite. We will definitely be returning. Thank you for making our night memorable. 🤩

The food here is great. We opted for fish and chips. They are fleshly made to order. You are given a buzzer if you are sitting outside, so you don't have to stand and wait. The bar inside is clean and child friendly. If you enjoy a great cup of tea, this is the bar to come to. It is made in a teapot with enough milk to make 2 drinks. Absolutely perfectly. Staff are friendly and happy to help.
