About This Pub

Ah, the Saddle Inn – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper local gem in Blackpool, with its roots going back to 1776, so you get that authentic, cosy vibe that's hard to beat. I love how they've nailed the basics: the food's spot on, with generous portions at prices that won't break the bank, and it's perfect if you're after something simple and satisfying before heading out for the day. The staff are absolute stars, always up for a chat and making sure everything runs smoothly, which really adds to the welcoming feel. Plus, with the beer garden and outdoor area, it's brilliant for a summer pint or watching the footie on the screens – they've got all the major sports covered, so you're sorted for match days. On the flip side, it does have a bit of a rugged charm that might come across as rough around the edges for some, and if you're not a dog person, the furry visitors could make it feel a bit lively. All in all, though, it's a solid choice for a laid-back visit; you'd probably enjoy it if you're up for good value and a touch of history, but it might not be everyone's cup of tea for a fancy night out.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home as soon as you walk in
  • Fantastic value for money with affordable prices on food and drinks, much like those Wetherspoon spots but with more character
  • It's got that lovely historical charm, being one of Blackpool's oldest pubs from 1776, which adds a real sense of tradition
  • Plenty of outdoor space with a beer garden that's perfect for a sunny day, and easy parking nearby
  • Dog-friendly setup means you can bring your furry friend along, which is brilliant for walks in the area
  • They show live sports like football and rugby, so it's a great spot to catch the big games with a pint
Cons
  • It can have a bit of a rough edge to the atmosphere at times, which might not suit everyone looking for a polished experience
  • With lots of dogs around, it could feel a tad chaotic if you're not keen on them or prefer a quieter setting

I popped in here with my daughter today, on our way to Blackpool amusements. It's the perfect place to grab some decent food before you hit the overpriced stuff you get on the promenade. The place was really nice, plenty of parking space and a lovely outdoor area. The staff are super friendly and pleasant and the food was really good. I've been to many a pub that had far higher prices and didn't serve anything anywhere near as good, it was excellent food and excellent value. Also great to find somewhere that knows how long to cook garden peas, these were perfect. I know it's just a small thing but I hate an over cooked pea. We will definitely visit again when we're in this neck of the woods, would absolutely recommend it to anyone.

The food was pretty good, and the place itself is nice. It's got a bit of a rough vibe, though. Lots of dogs running around, which is interesting. Might not be everyone's cup of tea, but worth checking out. Could be a hidden gem.

Here I am on my 3rd pint of Bass bitter. The first pint I ever had 65 years ago (aged 15) was Bass. You don't see it in many places nowadays, especially up north. Although it's no longer brewed by Bass, it's just as good. Lovely pub, good service. What's not to like? Wetherspoon prices, - well on a Tuesday anyway.

I've walked and ridden past this traditional whitewashed pub many times over the years, but this was the first time I've actually visited! Popped in here for lunch on my way to Stanley Park, and I was certainly not disappointed. It's a friendly local with a 250 year history (there's a blue plaque next to the entrance). Nice beer garden, and free parking round the back. Dog friendly. The two cosy little lounges are traditionally furnished, with comfy leather banquettes and large TV screens showing sports. The two girls behind the bar were both polite and friendly. And I was spoilt for choice when it came to the food! The large menu offered a great mix of classic pub favourites, curries, sharing plates, vegetarian and vegan, and there was a separate children's menu. Good meal deals, some with a free drink included. Ordered a lasagne in red wine and tomato ragu, with garlic bread and salad in a tangy dressing. The lasagne was hot, filling, well prepared and tasty. Treated myself to a honeycomb cheesecake with ice-cream and chocolate sauce for afters, and it was delicious! The wine and cappuccino were good too! Service was both quick and friendly, and prices were very reasonable. Would happily come here again.

Everything was perfect. A nice old pub, comfortable and welcoming. The food was excellent and great value too. Did a online search for pubs in Blackpool with good food, and ended up here thanks to all the good comments about the Saddle. I can happily add to those good comments. Enjoyable visit.
