About This Pub
Ah, the Ribble Pilot in Preston is one of those hidden gems that really draws you in with its fabulous views over the docks and that cosy, modern feel – it's just the ticket for a relaxed lunch or a cheeky evening drink. I've chatted with a few folks who rave about the friendly staff; they're always on point, making sure everything runs smoothly and you feel looked after from the get-go. Plus, it's easy on the wallet, which is a bonus when you're out for a bite with mates or the family. On the downside, it seems the food doesn't always hit the mark – some have had lovely meals like sausage and mash, but others mention overcooked fish or greasy dishes that leave a bit to be desired. And there've been a couple of niggles with things like hygiene in the toilets or unexpected surprises in the grub. All in all, it's worth a visit for the atmosphere and a pint, but maybe play it safe and focus on the drinks if you're not in the mood for any risks – still, with its events and offers, it's got plenty going for it if you catch it on a good day.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The views across Preston docks are absolutely stunning – perfect for whiling away an afternoon with a pint in hand.
-
Staff are incredibly friendly and efficient, always ready with a smile and quick service that makes you feel right at home.
-
It's budget-friendly with inexpensive prices, making it a great spot for a casual get-together without splashing out too much.
-
The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, with a family-friendly vibe, cosy touches like exposed brickwork, and lovely outdoor seating for sunnier days.
-
They've got a solid selection of classic pub grub and fun offers like 30% off mains, plus events and a dog-friendly policy that adds to the charm.
Cons
-
Food quality can be a bit inconsistent; some dishes turn out overcooked or not quite up to scratch, like the fish and chips or mixed grills.
-
There have been occasional gripes about hygiene, such as hair in meals or toilets that could do with a bit more attention.
-
Not every visit lives up to the hype, with a few folks opting to stick to drinks after disappointing meals.
-
It might not be the place for a guaranteed top-notch dinner, as experiences vary and some classics fall flat.

Sadly the food we ordered was not very nice. However we had used a voucher so didn't want to complain. Not sure we would eat there again. Staff lovely and service good. Will be back for drinks only.
Stunning place, great atmosphere with amazing views.
Staff are friendly, fast service and clean.
Fully wheelchair accessible, radar key for the disabled loo.
I had sausage and mash which was lush! My partner had fish and chips but the fish was frozen and over cooked.
Great place, avoid the fish, chips were fab x
The gordie las Lauren was a good little laugh and top customer service she definitely makes the punters want to return hopefully see you again Lauren thank you for your exceptional service
Recently visited for the first time in many years for a midweek lunch. The pub has had a full refurb since last there and is well done. There were a number of people in, some eating some not. I ordered jacket potato with veggie chilli and side salad, which comprised of usual mixed salad in addition to a dressing of soya beans, quinoa , brown rice and kale.
The wait time was bearable and table service available.
Unfortunately due to the lack of chilli and most of the salad missing, I returned my meal, something I never do. For the cost, it was very disappointing. The chilli had been over warmed and was dry and there was very little of it ie. Approx 1 tablespoon spread on top and around the sides of the potato. My salad was missing everything except lettuce leaves, red pepper and onion.
The waiter agreed I was right to return the dish. I waited some 15 minutes for my replacement by which time my partner had almost finished his meal.
The second portion had more chilli and some of the missing salad items, not all.
The waiter explained the menu was new and released the previous day and chefs were still learning what should be served with each dish.
He also talked about how the company only allows a certain quantity of food portion per person, which appears to be very small from my experience!
On this occasion the chefs apparently served me more than my entitlement! Still not average as it all fitted on a side plate.
The menu is also pricey (see photos for some of the choices available).
Unfortunately, this is not somewhere I will not be rushing back too .
A shame as the location overlooks the Preston Docklands, has lots of other shops in the vicinity and a path that surrounds the docks for anyone who wishes to take a stroll, admire the various boats or dog walk.
Order mix grill first one was cold and sent me a new one was all over cooked and full of grease and hair in food ,however the staff was polite and tried to rectify the issue however after two mixed grill disappointment we asked for a refund. Toilets could do the clean,
