About This Pub

Ah, Restaurant Ember – what a lovely spot it is, isn't it? From the reviews, it's clear this place knows how to deliver a memorable meal, especially with their tasting menus that mix up bold flavours and perfectly sized portions, making it a brilliant choice for a night out with mates or a special celebration. I love how they've created this welcoming atmosphere that transports you away from the everyday hustle, and the team there seems genuinely attentive, adding that personal touch that makes you feel right at home. On the flip side, it's not all perfect; a couple of folks mentioned some dishes being a tad overcooked or overly salty, like the beef or certain veggies, which could put a slight dampener on things if you're after spot-on execution every time. Still, with such high praise overall and a menu that evolves with local ingredients, I'd say it's well worth a visit for anyone looking for a solid, enjoyable dining experience – just keep those expectations in check for the finer details!

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely top-notch, with creative dishes like cured scallops and tasting menus that pack in loads of flavour and variety – perfect for a special treat.
  • The atmosphere is spot on; it's got this cosy, special vibe that makes you forget you're in Wellingborough, ideal for celebrating occasions with friends or loved ones.
  • Service is brilliant – the staff are attentive and really make you feel looked after, adding to that warm, welcoming feel.
  • They use local produce and keep the menu fresh, which means every visit could bring something new and exciting.
Cons
  • A few dishes might come out a bit overcooked or too salty, like the beef steak or some sides, which can throw off an otherwise great meal.
  • The chefs don't always get involved in explaining the dishes as much as some might hope, so you could miss out on that extra interactive touch.
  • Given it's in Wellingborough, it might not feel as accessible or grand as places in bigger cities, though that's a minor quibble for what it offers.

We enjoyed a lovely meal here, we chose the tasting menu with wine as it was a special occasion and sat on ‘the best seat in the house’. Firstly, the restaurant has a special vibe about it and you completely forget you’re in Wellingborough! We had special attention from the waiting staff who were all brilliant and so friendly, we also were served by the chefs who could talk about the food. The chefs also were keen to have feedback on the food so that it can be improved on next time which we thought was excellent. We had a really good time celebrating at Ember and both said we would like to return to enjoy a main meal here. The tasting menu was a fun experience but all the courses that were chosen this month were rather salty including the deserts! And we left feeling a little hungry but that’s just us!

An unforgettable dining experience at Ember. Chef James Peck and his team are doing something truly special here. Every dish felt like a masterclass in flavour—carefully thought out, beautifully executed, and full of surprises. I’ve never had cured scallops before, but now I’m ruined for life—they were that good. And the black garlic fudge? Wildly creative and absolutely delicious. You can tell there’s real passion and deep knowledge behind every element on the plate. The service was amazing—warm, attentive, and perfectly paced. And the space itself has a vibe like nothing I’ve felt before: industrial and modern, with fire pits at the heart of the kitchen, giving the whole experience a raw, elemental energy. Ember is more than just a meal—it’s an experience. A must-visit.

Interesting, not overwhelming. The beef stake was way to salty, the desert with caramel the same. The asparagus and cauliflower overcooked. The chefs was supposed to explain the dishes, taste combinations and be more involved. Is good that wasn't a pizza in the menu. 😀

I have enjoyed their excellent food and service many times and it keeps getting better with every visit. I absolutely recommend it whether you’re looking for a special occasion or just to enjoy an amazing meal out. The menu changes all the time as they are using local produce but I must say that I have enjoyed everything that I have ordered.

I’m not sure I can really put into words how much I enjoyed Restaurant Ember… we visited for our wedding anniversary and opted for the tasting menu. 8 dishes, all varied and perfectly sized portions packed with different flavour profiles. Having the tasting menu gets you a seat at the bar, where you can see the food being prepared right in front of you. Each course is entirely different from the last and my personal favourite was the scallop with leek and juniper bacon. There were no bad dishes in the tasting menu with the quail being the main protein. Each dish was packed with flavour, seasoned perfectly and kept you thinking “I could have more of that dish, when can we come back?” The restaurant itself is beautiful and whilst there are a small number of tables it feels full of life. The head chef / owner is extremely passionate, friendly and happily answers any questions you may have. It’s clear the other chefs have a great working environment. In summary, please go and try Restaurant Ember. It is an outstanding restaurant with attentive serving staff with beautifully cooked food.
