About This Pub
Ah, the Railway Bell—it's one of those pubs that really captures the essence of a good British local, tucked away in South Woodford. I've got to say, it's a top spot for kicking back with friends over a pint and some tasty pub classics; the food hits the spot without trying to be fancy, and the beer selection is spot on. Plus, if you're into sports, you'll love the live screenings and the outdoor area for those warmer evenings—it's just ace for catching the big games. The staff often go out of their way to make you feel welcome, which adds to that cosy, community vibe. On the flip side, though, it's not perfect; there are times when it feels a tad understaffed, leading to slower service or even a brusque response if they're swamped, and I've heard a few grumbles about tables not being as spotless as they could be. Overall, it's a solid choice for a relaxed night out, as long as you go in with realistic expectations and maybe avoid the peak rush hours.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The atmosphere is just lovely—it's got that classic British pub charm with wood-panelled interiors and a welcoming vibe that makes you feel right at home.
-
They've got a cracking selection of beers and pub grub that's hearty and satisfying, perfect for a casual catch-up with mates.
-
It's brilliant for sports fans, with plenty of screens showing live matches and a nice beer garden for enjoying the game outdoors on a sunny day.
-
The staff are generally friendly and attentive, adding to that community feel, and it's great that it's dog-friendly and family-oriented.
Cons
-
Service can be a bit hit or miss; sometimes it's understaffed, leading to waits or the odd rude encounter when they're rushed off their feet.
-
Tables might not always be as clean as you'd hope, and there have been times when things like glassware are in short supply, which can put a damper on the experience.

I booked an outdoor table for 5- they didn't have it, staff were rude told me they are busy and can't help and just wait, so we foundour own table. Pub was under staffed, glasses everywhere, tables dirty so I used the napkins to clean our own table ,they had no glasses so we were served in whatever was left. Bar wait was long but one older lady was very sweet so she deserves a mention. This pub was my regular buy it's gone way down the hole . Date 13.6.25
Nice pub, good food and a nice selection of beers. Service a little slow but you can't have it all.
Plenty of screens for all the sport and a pleasant outside area too
The Railway Bell is a classic British pub with a cozy atmosphere and a solid selection of drinks. It’s got that old-school charm—wood-panelled interiors, friendly staff, and a mix of regulars and newcomers that makes it feel genuinely welcoming.
The food is good pub fare—nothing too fancy, but comforting and satisfying.
Bonus points for the beer garden in warmer weather and the sports screens without being overwhelmingly loud.
A great local spot if you’re after a relaxed pint and a no-fuss meal.
Hubby and I regularly visit the Railway Bell for drinks and lunch. The service cannot be faulted with friendly staff and impeccable service. In warmer weather we take advantage of the ample seating choice outside and enjoy watching sports on the large screen TVs or listening to the latest tracks over the speakers. A great place to visit and highly recommended.
Today I had a dinner in this pub with my best friend who highly recommended this place. And she was absolutely right! Busy, cozy and warm pub. Great atmosphere and friendly staff. I ordered lasagne and chocolate tart with an ice cream, it was absolutely delicious. Open garden with few screens and more screens inside. Love the design and the vibe. I definitely will come back there as I live local.
