About This Pub
Ah, Porters @ The Prince of Wales – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper local gem, tucked away in Macclesfield. From what I've gathered from the reviews, it's all about that warm, welcoming atmosphere where the landlady and staff go out of their way to make everyone feel at ease, whether you're popping in for a quick pint or settling in for the evening. The real ales are spot on, with folks raving about the likes of Timothy Taylor, and the prices are fair enough to keep you coming back, especially with that loyalty card adding a nice touch. It's got all the traditional trappings – think wood everywhere and a cosy fireplace – that make it ideal for a relaxed chat with friends. On the flip side, it looks like the food scene has taken a bit of a hit; some reviews mention homemade pies and great value meals, but that's apparently not on offer anymore, which might disappoint if you're hoping for a bite. Still, with an overall rating hovering around excellent, it's clear this place knows how to keep things cheerful and community-oriented. If you're a fan of straightforward, no-fuss pubs, I'd say give it a go – just plan ahead for the hours and maybe pair it with a meal from nearby to cover all bases.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The staff and landlady are absolutely brilliant, always warm and welcoming, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
-
They've got a cracking selection of real ales, like Timothy Taylor, at really good prices, plus perks like a loyalty card that make it even more appealing.
-
It's got that classic pub charm with plenty of wood panelling and a real fireplace, perfect for a cosy catch-up with mates on a chilly evening.
Cons
-
It seems the food options have been scaled back or stopped altogether, which is a shame if you're after a proper meal to go with your pint.
-
The operating hours look a bit muddled in the info available, so it's worth double-checking to avoid turning up when it's not quite open as expected.

Lovely pub. I visit regularly with my disabled client and the staff and locals are very warm and friendly.
Definitely recommend 👍
Great landlady, good real ale,and a loyalty card, and good prices.
I have removed my previous review, as it is no longer relevant as it discusses available food, which no longer exists. However, it is still a fantastic pub and the landlady is still an absolute diamond of human being x
The Prince of wales looks like a proper pub with plenty of wood and a real fireplace. I had a couple of pints of Timothy taylor, wich was perfect. I have not eaten there yet. so, will update this post when i have. Thanks.
Wow! Incredible flavoursome, home made pies served with mash, peas and gravy for £7.95.
Honestly blown away by the service, food quality and flavour at such a good price.
Well done to the team! We will be back!
