About This Pub

Ah, Portello Lounge – it's one of those places that just feels like a breath of fresh air when you step inside, especially on a sunny day with those full-height windows letting in the light. I've got to say, the all-day menus are a real winner; there's something for every mood, whether you're after a hearty breakfast, some tapas on a Tuesday, or a cheeky cocktail deal to unwind. The staff really make an effort to get things right, like nailing a custom order for eggs or adding thoughtful touches for special occasions – it's those little details that stick with you. And the location's brilliant, right by Bridgford Park, making it ideal for a casual catch-up or even bringing along the dog for a pint and a bite. On the flip side, though, it's not perfect; I've heard a few folks mention that the coffee can be a bit strong for their liking, and there might be times when the food doesn't quite hit the mark, like over-fried calamari or prawns that taste a tad underwhelming. Plus, the upstairs area can get breezy with the doors open, and seating arrangements aren't always crystal clear, which might leave you scratching your head at the door. Overall, it's a solid spot for a relaxed outing in Nottingham, and I'd definitely recommend giving it a go if you're in the area – just keep those minor niggles in mind for a smoother visit.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food and drinks are spot on, with a brilliant range of all-day menus that cater to everyone, including kids, gluten-free, and vegan options – it's always nice to have choices that suit all tastes.
  • Service is generally top-notch; the staff are friendly and efficient, making you feel right at home, especially with little touches like perfect custom orders or quick table service.
  • It's got a fantastic atmosphere – think light, airy spaces with huge windows and a cosy vibe, perfect for people-watching or relaxing near Bridgford Park.
  • They're super dog-friendly and have great accessibility features, like wheelchair-friendly seating and restrooms, which makes it welcoming for all sorts of groups.
  • Love the deals on offer, such as Tapas Tuesdays or the Lounge Cocktail Club – they add a fun, affordable twist to popping in for a bite or a drink.
Cons
  • Some food items can be hit or miss; for instance, certain dishes like calamari might not always come out as expected, which is a bit disappointing.
  • The coffee can be a tad too bitter for some palates, and there might be environmental niggles like it getting windy upstairs when the doors are open.
  • There can be a bit of confusion at the entrance with the seating policy – sometimes you're told to wait, other times to just grab a spot, which might throw you off a little.
  • Occasional table mix-ups or service slips, though the team seems nice enough, it just means things aren't always seamless.

Had okay experience, it is bit windy upstairs with doors open and they kept swapping everything of tables, staff were nice, however, at entrance where it says wait to be seated we were just told to take seat anywhere in the end. Coffee was a bit too bitter for my liking. Avacado toast was a tad busy but was tasty. I like the decor at this place.

Bustling venue. Service was excellent. I asked for the egg well done and it was perfect. It was a change to have corn fritters instead of sausages. The added additions of the peppers were welcomed.

Had a fantastic Mother's Day meal. A lovely venue with quite a nice cozy and spacious feel about it. The food was really, really good and service was great too. The table was laid out with a couple of nice additional touches, with red petals and a handwritten Mothers card. Nice touch. A big bonus is being able to take dogs in too.

Really nice breakfast, reasonable prices, coffee was lovely as well. Orders arrived very quickly, really good service and convenient with the app. Really liked that you could remove and add breakfast items using the app as well. Lovely vegetarian options and great that dogs are welcome too! Would definitely reccommend and will be coming back again soon 😊

We ordered the tapas tri of dishes, Calamari, BBQ wings and the Korean king prawns in a sauce. The wings was perfect. The calamari was sent back because it looked refried, and came back looking the exact same way soaked in oil. The Korean king prawns tasted like the prawns was boiled or steamed. Then cover in sauce and cilantro, with a sprinkle of sesame seeds. Bland! Very disappointing.
