About This Pub
You know, I popped into Porta Tapas Bar the other week and it really left a smile on my face – it's one of those places that captures that lively Spanish spirit without trying too hard. The food is spot on, with fresh, homemade dishes using brilliant ingredients straight from Spain, and everything from the croquettes to the scallops just tastes spot on. The staff are an absolute delight, always friendly and ready to help, which makes the whole experience feel warm and inviting. Pair that with a cracking selection of wines and beers, and you've got a recipe for a proper relaxed evening out with friends. On the downside, it's walk-ins only, so if you're heading there on a Saturday night, you might be in for a wait while you grab a drink elsewhere – it's a bit of a gamble, but worth it if you're up for spontaneity. Oh, and if you're thinking of bringing the dog along, it's not an option inside, which is a shame on rainy days. All in all, it's a gem for anyone after genuine tapas in a comfortable setting, but just keep those little niggles in mind for the full picture.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The food is absolutely delicious, with authentic Spanish tapas made from top-quality ingredients – think classics like croquettes and patatas bravas that really hit the spot.
-
Friendly and attentive staff who make you feel welcome right away, always on hand with recommendations or a chat.
-
A relaxed and unpretentious atmosphere that's perfect for unwinding with mates over good music, beer, and wine.
-
Great selection of wines, especially the Rioja, which pairs brilliantly with the dishes and adds to the whole Spanish vibe.
Cons
-
It's walk-ins only, so you might end up waiting for a table, which can be a bit of a faff on busy nights.
-
Not dog-friendly inside, so if you're out with your four-legged mate, you'll have to cross your fingers for nice weather to sit outside.
-
Some say the flavours aren't quite as punchy as at other tapas spots, so it might not blow your socks off if you're after something super bold.

Amazing food and wine. Dropped in on Saturday around 7, they put us on the waiting list and then we went for a drink. Got text that the table was ready about an hour later (which they said would be the time)... perfect. Great friendly staff and top food
The best chicken thighs or wings in a sublimely smoky & spicy rojo sauce. Gorgeous pork steak and hispi cabbage too.
Staff are attentive and kind. Decor is cool.
Lovely little tapas place. In good weather it's nice to sit outside. Inside is not dog friendly so pray for good weather if you plan to come with your dog. The wines (especially the rioja) are great and all the dishes and service were excellent. I will be returning!
Lovely little spot with great heart ❤️ staff were excellent - friendly and knowledgeable. Food was nic but... We've had nicer tapas in Manchester (in Sale and city centre), just more flavourful. But it was a nice evening.
Very much enjoyed our Sunday afternoon trip to Porta. Fantastic tapas, each dish was awesome. We ordered Bread in oil, croquettes, prawns, potatas bravas, scallops and tenderstem broccoli. The lager on draft was cracking as well. Very relaxed atmosphere, prefect spot for people watching if you get a table outside. Staff were very friendly and attentive throughout the meal.
Very reasonable price for the quality of food. Highly recommend!
