Decent local pub with lots of space inside, plus space outside for better weather. Visited prior to a Forest match, and the atmosphere was great. Really good vibe - friendly and open to everyone. Great selection of drinks with plenty of ales to try out! Good staff, but obvs if it’s busy, you have to be patient. Would recommend.
An appalling experience. A small table (no. 24) wedged under various ledges. The place was full of ill-behaved dogs, children and, even worse, their parents, who thought it was acceptable to be constanty moving about singing loud songs to their off-spring and bashing kids' high chairs against my seat. Obviously the venue can't control all aspects of the clientele ‐ but I suspect most of the population can do without dogs 'n' kids in eating venues.
The soup starter with garlic bread was lovely. The main course was - alledgedy ‐ a pork steak and mustard mash. It arrived after considerable delay. Sadly, it was not worth the wait. I received a plate of messy slop, served by an incoherent youth. The dish was devoid of flavour. Accompanying veg was watery, sparse, and also strangely flavour-free. The staff, including the manager, seemed stressed out.
I think the pub struggles to cope with the number of covers it offers, resulting in underwhelming food and service.
A nice, big, pub which was once a British Legion club and it's a nice touch that they have kept lots of the memorabilia.
Beer is excellent and food is good, my wife particularly liked the sticky toffee pudding.
Food is served in the main bar, if you intend to eat I would recommend booking. We did and it all went without a hitch.
We hired the function room upstairs for our wedding party. We cannot fault a thing. The room upstairs is a lovely room which is simply decorated allowing us to add our own decor which complimented the room perfectly. We had ceremony in the room with our guests sat around the tables ( we had already done the legal bit a few days prior). There was plenty of room for all of our guests and more guests in the evening. The staff at the poppy cannot do enough for you. From the moment we went to view the room, to booking and through to the day was seamless. James and Vanessa were incredible, they offered ideas and helped wherever we needed help with anything. We set up the eve before and James was there to make sure all was just right
On the day, everything ran like clockwork. The food was incredible, the staff were awesome, the organisation was perfect. We would like to say a huge thank you to James and Vanessa, Liv, Darren and all that were involved. You’re all amazing. Thank you for making our wedding fabulous.
. As for the pie and mash and the platters, oh my word, we have had nothing but great feedback, everyone loved the food. 👌🏻. Thanks again, Roy and Rosie😀
The Poppy and Pint is an excellent bar with a great selection of food and beers. The bar is large and spacious with outdoor area with seating. It also has a function room upstairs. Bar staff are friendly. It is really nice bar to visit for a drink and a catch up with friends. Excellent food, good loyalty card program/app. Large car park.
