About This Pub
Ah, the Pig & Whistle – it's one of those pubs that just warms your cockles from the moment you step inside. I've got to say, the friendly staff and lively crowd really make it stand out; they're always up for a chat, and with traditional Irish tunes playing, it feels like a proper slice of community spirit. The prices are a delight for London – you won't break the bank on a pint or a pizza in the beer garden – and it's perfectly placed near the tube for an easy night out. On the flip side, though, it's got that vulnerable feel, like it could be swept away by the area's changes, and without much online info, you might have to just pop in and see for yourself. All in all, if you're after a genuine, unpretentious spot to enjoy a drink and some banter, it's well worth a visit, but keep in mind it might not have all the bells and whistles of newer places.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home as soon as you walk in.
-
It's got that proper old-school pub charm with traditional Irish music, a jukebox, and plenty of tellies for catching the sports.
-
Prices are spot on for London – affordable pints and even a pizza place in the beer garden, which is a lovely touch.
-
The outdoor patio is a great spot for a chat, and it's conveniently located just a couple of minutes from Latimer Road tube.
-
It's a tight-knit community vibe, always buzzing, especially on weekends, and they allow vaping inside, which is a bonus for some.
Cons
-
It might not be around forever, as it's one of those classic estate pubs that could face the pressures of gentrification in the area.
-
With no website or online presence, it's a bit tricky to get the latest info or book ahead if you're planning a visit.
-
The place has a simple, no-frills setup, which could feel a tad basic if you're after something more modern or fancy.
-
While the reviews are glowing, the overall rating dips to 4.3, suggesting there might be the odd off day or mixed experiences not captured here.

Dianne and Kate thank you so much. Proper Irish traditional music, friendly staff and the best prices for the area. Great spot lil outdoor patio and vaping allowed inside the best place I've been in a while. Love yall will be back xx
Proper old school estate pub. Busy on a Saturday afternoon like London pubs used to be before they all got gentrified or knocked down. They don’t make them like this anymore. Probably not long for this world so visit while you can.
Great bar with a fun team of regulars that lighten up the mood of the pub. Great for sports with a good amount of tellies, as well as a jukebox!
The prices are mega for London and the staff is super lovely.
Even has a pizza place in the beer garden.
It’s got all the essentials. Recommend!

A Tight Knit Community Flat Roof Boozer.
The Pig & Whistle is located on the edge of the Silchester and Lancaster West Estates in North Kensington. The nearest Tube is Latimer Road which is a two minute walk away.
The Pig & Whistle is an unusual name for a boozer and there are many explanations for its origins. The most consistent one I found is that it originates from Anglo-Saxon times, “Piggen Wassail”. ‘Piggen’was a pail that you dipped your mug or ‘Pig’ into to fill it with Ale, ‘Wassail’ was Anglo-Saxon for “Be in health”.
This is a simply decorated one bar pub that is split level. The servery runs pretty much the length of the bar to the lower section on the right. There is plenty of traditional seating throughout which includes a cosy curved banquette. The walls are painted a neutral grey and have a GAA shirt on the wall along with a trophy cabinet and a few TV’s. . There is a pool table, a Jukebox and a dartboard which is slightly tucked away. At the back of the pub is a large beer garden which is partially covered and has lots of benches.
The beer line up was straightforward and was full of familiar favourites. I decided on an Amstel, my pint was excellent and pleasingly cost less than a fiver. The food here is by Notting Dale Pizza. There are a dozen or so pizzas to choose from, a 12” Margherita pizza costs £10.50, the pizza here receive rave reviews.
I arrived around 5.30pm, the pub was busy with a predominantly local crowd from all ages and walks of life. The atmosphere was lively and upbeat set to a mix of Ska and chart tunes playing on the Jukebox. I drank half of my pint inside and decided to finish it off in the garden which was packed with lots of punters tucking into pizza.
The pub hosts Live Music, Premier League action and GAA games.
If you want to know what a proper community pub looks like, then look no further than The @pigandwhistlew10 .This is a tight knit pub that I have visited a couple of times and I have felt welcomed and enjoyed both visits. This is the quintessential Flat Roof Pub.
