About This Pub

You know, when I think about The Paddock, it's got that easy-going charm that's just right for a laid-back evening out. The food really stands out – it's hearty, well-priced, and hits the spot, especially with options for those wanting something plant-based or family-friendly. I love how the staff go the extra mile to make everyone feel welcome, which adds to the cosy atmosphere and makes it a great spot to catch up with mates or enjoy a meal with the little ones. On the downside, though, some of the dishes could use a bit more flair in how they're presented, and honestly, the desserts just don't live up to the rest, so I'd probably give them a miss. Plus, it's changed a fair bit over time and lost some of that old-school appeal, but it's still a solid choice if you're after an inexpensive pint and a bite without any fuss. All in all, it's worth popping in for a relaxed time, as long as you keep expectations realistic.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely delicious and offers brilliant value for money – you get hearty portions without emptying your wallet.
  • The staff are fantastic; they're always friendly, helpful, and make you feel right at home, even with families in tow.
  • It's a proper family-friendly spot with a welcoming atmosphere, perfect for escaping the hustle and enjoying a relaxed meal.
  • There's a great variety on the menu, including plenty of plant-based options, so there's something for everyone.
Cons
  • Some dishes could do with a bit more effort on presentation – like that roast chicken that needed a touch more colour to really shine.
  • The desserts aren't quite up to scratch and feel overpriced, so you might want to skip them and save your pennies.
  • Service is generally okay, but it can be a bit lacking in warmth from some of the younger staff who don't crack a smile as much as you'd hope.
  • It's lost a bit of its original charm over the years, feeling a tad different from how it used to be, though it's still worth a visit.

Delicious food, although I wouldn't say 5 star quality, but still, great! Wonderful smiling staff. Nice atmosphere. As for the prices, RIDICULOUSLY CHEAP! I cannot believe the quantity and quality of food you get for absolutely cheap prices! WELL DONE!👏

Child friendly, good prices, menu has plenty of options, I went for the mix and match 1/2 roast chicken which could of done with some colour on it. Service was OK, youge people that can't crack a smile but other than that pleasant visit.

Love that this place offers a lot of plant based items! Food is pretty good, fairly priced. Would skip the dessert though, not worth the price imo. Been going to the paddock for years, and worked there around 1990, it's changed a lot and lost some of its charm. But worth a pint and a meal if you're in the area!
