About This Pub

Ah, the Noose & Monkey – it's one of those places in Aberdeen that just feels like a proper local favourite, you know? Tucked away near the theatre, it's got this welcoming vibe that's perfect for grabbing a bite before a show or settling in for some live tunes. I have to say, the food really stands out; their pies and fresh specials are made with top-notch local ingredients, and from what I've heard from folks who've been, it's all about that homemade touch that leaves you satisfied. The cocktails are another highlight – innovative and paired with some great deals that won't break the bank. And the staff? They're an absolute delight, always on hand to make your visit smoother. But, let's be honest, it can get a bit hectic when it's busy, which is often, so you might end up waiting around or feeling a tad squished. The menu's not massive either, and while most dishes hit the mark, there are a few like the burger that could use a little fine-tuning based on feedback. Overall, though, it's a solid spot for a good night out – I'd recommend giving it a go if you're in the area, especially for those Sunday roasts or a cheeky midweek drink, just keep an eye on the opening times so you don't miss out!

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely spot on – freshly prepared with local ingredients, and dishes like their handmade pies and seasonal specials are real crowd-pleasers.
  • They've got a fantastic selection of cocktails and drinks, including great deals like the midweek Margarita club, which is a bargain at £7.
  • The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, perfect for a pre-show meal or catching some live music, with events like open mic nights and blues gigs adding to the fun.
  • Staff are incredibly friendly and attentive, always ready with a smile and helpful recommendations – makes you feel right at home.
  • It's in a handy spot near His Majesty's Theatre, and they've got good value offers, like the Sunday roast deal for two with a bottle of wine.
Cons
  • It can get really busy, especially in the evenings, which might mean waits for tables or a bit of a squeeze if you're popping in spontaneously.
  • The menu is on the smaller side, so if you're after a huge variety, you might find it a tad limited.
  • Some dishes could do with a tweak – like the burger, which one mate mentioned was just alright and could be better with a toasted bun or less well-done patty.
  • They're closed on Mondays and Tuesdays unless there's a show on, which might be a downer if you're planning a mid-week visit.

Very busy venue a short distance from Aberdeen city centre. Small but varied menu. Food was very tasty and well presented. Staff could not be faulted.

Gratefully BioCafe is temporarily closed otherwise we would not have walked into this beautiful place. Had the Haggis, Mussels and deep fried pickles to start. Pie of the day (Chicken & Haggis) and the Philly Cheese Steak Wrap with Truffle Fries. Could not alter or change the smallest ingredients, it was all incredible. My partner and I eat out once per day during this time of the year and this is top of our list. The atmosphere and customers were all cheerful and in great spirits. The price for all this plus 4 large soft drinks totalled £67! Incredible. Will be back at least once a month! Thankyou to all the staff and chef! Also candle lit tables, high stools by windows. Beautifully decorated!

Nice atmosphere. The Cajun lintel soup was outstanding as was the chicken and haggis pie. The burger was just OK. I’d suggest toasting the bun, and offering to cook the patty less than well done. Otherwise very nice place

An unassuming place, which I like, a bit of a pub style. That being said, excellent cocktails and food. Some of the best I've had in Aberdeen. Good deals as well, like their midweek Margarita club at £7. And their Sunday roast, 2 + a bottle of red for £45, is a solid value. The staff is helpful with suggestions and lovely. Visiting from Texas, the Scottish mussels were great as well as the lentil soup and the garlic mushroom creme fresh on sourdough. Only caveat is that the kitchen closes at 9pm. But that's pretty normal for the area. Also, great music and atmosphere. Most people that came in were chatty and enjoying their time.
