About This Pub
Ah, the Newton Aycliffe Navy Club – it's one of those tucked-away spots that really grows on you once you step inside. I have to say, the atmosphere is just spot on; the staff go out of their way to make everyone feel welcome, and it's clear from the buzz that regulars love it. You've got all sorts of goings-on to keep things interesting, like belting out tunes at karaoke on Saturday nights or testing your trivia skills at the Thursday quiz – and don't miss the Sunday shows with a bit of entertainment thrown in. The free pool sessions for members on weekends are a lovely touch, adding that extra layer of fun without costing a penny. It's also spot on for booking the function room for special occasions; folks have raved about how well it's handled for wakes and parties. On the other hand, it's a bit old-school with cash only payments, which can be frustrating in this digital age, and there's no food on offer, so you might need to grab a bite beforehand. Still, if you're after an affordable pint and a good laugh with friends, it's a solid choice – just keep those quirks in mind for a hassle-free visit!
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home as soon as you walk in.
-
There's a brilliant lineup of events like karaoke on Saturdays, quiz nights on Thursdays, and Sunday shows with entertainment – perfect for a fun evening out.
-
Free pool for members on weekends is a fantastic perk, adding to the relaxed vibe.
-
The function room is great for hiring out for parties, wakes, or weddings, and it's well-recommended based on experiences shared.
-
Beers are reasonably priced and of good quality, especially when you're catching up with mates at a private do.
Cons
-
It's cash only, which can be a bit of a nuisance if you're used to tapping your card – might need to hit the ATM first.
-
They don't serve food, so if you're peckish, you'll have to sort that out elsewhere before or after your visit.
-
There have been a few gripes about strict rules in certain areas, like the pool or darts rooms, which could put a damper on things if you're not a member or familiar with the setup.
-
Opening hours are a tad limited, with the club only open a few days a week, so it's not ideal for spontaneous trips.

Kicked my son out of pool room and darts room. It's not professional darts or pool. All members wanted us to play but not aloud.
Attended the wake held here after funeral for former neighbour. Couldn't ask for more with everything catered for. Highly recommended establishment.
They don't do food. So no reviews for bait. But a very friendly club. And you can get some pork scratching or nuts.
Great staff and good priced quality beers when I attended a private function. A good place to hire I'd say.
Attended a private function.
Very friendly staff and the supplied buffet was plentiful and flavoursome.
Only reason for losing a star is the lack of electronic payments. Cash only accepted. Not great if one wants to buy a large round.
