About This Pub

Ah, the New York Tavern – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a hidden gem in Rotherham, you know? From the reviews I've had a look at, folks are absolutely buzzing about the fantastic selection of real ales from Chantry, all served up in a laidback, traditional setting with vintage frames and a proper tavern vibe. It's got this welcoming energy, with coal fires and a jukebox that keeps things lively without drowning out a good chat, and it's no surprise it's been named Rotherham's Pub of the Year for seven years running. Prices are inexpensive too, so you won't break the bank for a quality pint. On the flip side, one person noted the barman wasn't too friendly, which might put a dampener on things if you're after top-notch service every time, and it's a bit of a shame there's no website to get the lowdown beforehand. All in all, if you're after a relaxed spot for a drink and a catch-up, I'd say give it a go – it's got that authentic pub spirit that's hard to beat.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The real ales are absolutely spot-on, with a great range that's kept in top condition – perfect for ale enthusiasts.
  • It's got that classic, unspoilt pub vibe with wooden designs and a cosy atmosphere that makes you feel right at home.
  • The staff are generally approachable and friendly, adding to the welcoming feel of the place.
  • A decent selection of ciders and whiskies, plus little touches like a jukebox and coal fires, make it a proper traditional spot.
Cons
  • One review mentioned the barman wasn't very nice, so service could be hit or miss on some visits.
  • There's no website listed, which makes it tricky to check out the latest info or menu before heading over.

Tuesday 4th February 2025 Tonight we came into this great old fashioned real ale pub A propper locals pub with unspoilt bar and interiors of pub for a great range of real ales kept well When in Rotherham, this pub is a must to visit. This pub is good, and even though the barman was not very nice with photos took its understandable.

This was a fantastic pub to visit, with a laidback tavern vibe! The wooden design, vintage frames and name echoing the New York stadium contribute to this, staff were really approachable too. A good selection of ciders is available and I had a tasty Strawberry Cider, sitting comfortably and the counter is neatly presented!

You can see why this has been Rotherham’s Pub of the Year for 7 years running - a classic pub with a great range of Chantery ales, real coal fires, top tunes piped out which does not stifle good conversation.
