About This Pub
Ah, the Nelson Hotel – it's one of those pubs that feels like a proper local spot, you know? From what I've gathered from the reviews, it's got this warm, welcoming side where the staff can be dead helpful and you can just kick back with a nice, relaxing drink without any fuss. The prices on the beers are spot on, really affordable, and you'll likely bump into some down-to-earth folks who add to the character of the place. It's got that classic Sam Smith feel, which is charming if you fancy a bit of authenticity. On the flip side, though, it's not all roses – there've been a few tales of rude service that could sour your night, and some have said the overall standards aren't up to scratch, with comments about it being a bit grubby or attracting the wrong sort. Still, with a solid 3.9 rating, it's worth a punt if you're in Rochdale and up for a gamble on a traditional boozer, but maybe go in with your eyes open and keep it light-hearted.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The staff are generally friendly and welcoming, making it easy to settle in for a good chat and a pint
-
It's got that down-to-earth, casual vibe with real characters around, perfect for a relaxed evening
-
Beer prices are a real bargain, like something out of the old days, which is brilliant if you're watching the pennies
Cons
-
Some staff can have a bit of a bad attitude, which might put you off if you're not in the mood for it
-
The place has been called out for being below par in terms of standards, so it might not feel as clean or welcoming as you'd hope
-
It's attracted a mixed crowd in the past, and not everyone has had a great time, with a few describing it as downright disappointing

Nice pub, down to earth people. Another typical Sam Smith pub selling Taddy’s. Situated in a massive foreign occupied area. The pub itself is full of real characters.
DISGUSTING!!! BAD ATTITUDE!!!
I hate writing bad reviews, and for me to employ such steps you know it must be Bad bad bad!!!
I walked into this pub and before I could even walk up to the bar, the young bar maid stopped me and asked "what are you doing?" I was not sure how to respond to this as I didn't understand the question. I did say " just coming in, is that a problem?" She responded with a "Yes! you can't sell anything in here" OMG. I was so embarrassed, I felt so out of place and uncomfortable. I can't think why she said this. Aside from the fact that I'm black, and everyone else in their wasn't it makes no sense.
The place is not exactly what you would describe as salubrious, anyway. That coupled with their welcome or rather lack thereof I say avoid. AVOID AVOID AVOID!!!
do not go here, it's not worth it. And that is unfortunate.
Nothing wrong with the place ! Join the real world mate, Real people, you won't get mugged stabbed, potted but may get a bit of ribbing.Landlord Dave-friendly,amiable (bit of a trim for Xmas ? ).Bar maids friendly polite, good at their job.
