About This Pub
Ah, Lowes Arms – it's one of those classic Manchester pubs that you hear about from mates, tucked away on Hyde Road with a solid 4.4 rating that shows it's generally a hit. From what I've gathered, it's brilliant for a relaxed catch-up; the staff are dead chatty and make everything feel warm and inviting, and they've got this cosy setup with a nice mix of traditional charm and a menu that's got plenty of options without breaking the bank. I love that it's got a large car park too, which is a bonus for popping in after a drive. On the flip side, though, some recent chats from folks who've been there paint a different picture – like that garlic bread that was more of a snack than a starter, or Sunday dinners that didn't quite hit the mark with bland flavours and fatty meat. There was even a bit of a fuss about pet policies, which could spoil the fun if you're out with the family and your furry friend. Overall, it's got that community spirit going for it, but I'd say it's best for a quick pint and a chat rather than a full meal, just to avoid any letdowns. If you're a regular pub goer, give it a go and see for yourself – it's got potential, but like any spot, it's not perfect.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, always making you feel right at home as soon as you walk in.
-
It's got a great selection of pub meals with a wide menu to choose from, and the prices are spot on for a casual night out.
-
The atmosphere is cosy and comfortable, with a lovely building full of character that makes it a proper local gem.
Cons
-
Portion sizes can be a bit disappointing, like that tiny garlic bread that wouldn't satisfy a five-year-old, let alone adults.
-
Some meals, especially the Sunday roasts, have been described as bland or underwhelming, with issues like watery gravy and tough veg.
-
There are occasional service hiccups, such as inconsistent rules about bringing dogs, which might put a dampener on family visits.

Went tonight as a family of 4.
ordered a garlic bread to start £3.50 received one half of a small baguette, which was so small my 5 year old ate it to herself. I asked the kicthen staff if it was a child portion, and he was bemused and said 'no its a regular portion'
For our mains we ordered we order
sweet chilli chicken sizzler
steak and ale pie with chips
chicken burger and chips
kids chicken nuggets chips and beans.
Chicken Sizzer
well there no was sizzle to start with, chicken came drenched in sweet chilli sauce no peppers or onions which I would have expected with a sizzler and the tortilla that came with it was stale.
steak and ale pie
Bland, no seasoning portion size was acceptable.
chicken burger
Brioche bun completely dry (no sauce ie mayo) just plain bun with what looked like a piece of the top had been picked off to remove something unsightly. Chicken came completely plain no seasoning just bare chicken breast.
chicken nuggets and chips
wish I ordered 4 of these instead.
we decided to leave without complaining. However, upon arriving home, I couldn't leave it and went back to voice my disappointment with the shoddy meal!
I spoke to the landlord who said the chicken burger is served that way because of allergies in any restaurant or pub its the norm to be asked about allergies when placing an order, we were not asked about allergies (we dont have any so no concern to us) but i feel this was just a quick off the cuff excuse from the landlord for extremely poor food, the landlord didnt have an excuse for the chicken sizzler that came without the sizzle! I was offered a voucher to eat there again. However, I would not step foot in this establishment again. When I first walked in, I was surprised on a Saturday to see that there was no one in eating. I certainly now know why.
Had Sunday dinner, food was bland, roast potatoes and boiled potatoes hard to cut gravy was like water. Meat wasn't tasty and was fatty with blood veins. Vegetables came in a separate bowl and was hard no gravy to cover them. Wouldn't go again.
We were walking as a family and decided to call in for a few drinks today. We walked in with our children and pup in the lounge area and as soon as we walked in and sat down a young lady came over asking us to go in the other room because we had a dog , a lady was sat at the bar with a dog the bar lady said “shes our regular”.
We walked into the other room and then ordered drinks. We ordered a few pints, lime and soda and a couple of J20s for the children, the pint was put into a totally different glass other than what we asked and the lime and soda was flat. So I went back to the bar and asked for a change of drink and got the dirtiest look, the lady then said “what else do you want”, I replied with the “same drink but hopefully the soda is better”. She replaced my drink and then slammed it on the counter and walked away.
We was going to eat here but we didn’t want to after the so called special treatment. Not only did we get pushed in another room even though there was dogs in the dining room we never got a service with a smile. We won’t be returning again talk about feel uncomfortable .
Pop in for some lunch on Sunday for catch up with a pal. Great local pub service good pub meals. Menue has a good wide choice. Venue is cosy and comfortable service is good and atmosphere is friendly. Large carpark and prices are reasonable. Definitely worth a visit every now and then.
I have visited here a few times throughout the last few months, been a great visit, welcoming atmosphere and friendly staff.
I visit with my close friends where we ordered cappuccino and soup of the day, it was lovely.
The building is such a lovely place. Full of love and architecture. Great place to spend time and have a get together.
Credit's to the team and management.
Kind regards,
Aaron
