About This Pub

Ah, the King Edward VII – it's one of those classic London pubs that you hope will always deliver that proper British experience, isn't it? From what I've gathered, it's got some real gems going for it, like the super welcoming staff who make you feel right at home, and when the food's on offer, it's spot on – think delicious roasts and pies that hit the spot after a long day. That old-school charm is still there, making it a lovely spot for a quiet pint and a chat. But, let's be honest, it's not without its downsides; I've heard a few tales of the beer selection being a letdown, with no proper cask ales to speak of, just the usual lagers and those sharp IPAs that don't quite hit the mark for traditionalists. Plus, it seems like the place has lost a bit of its buzz recently, with some saying the atmosphere has gone flat and food isn't always around. Overall, if you're in the E15 area and fancy giving it a try, it's worth popping in for the good bits, but maybe keep an eye out for those off days to avoid any disappointment – after all, every pub has its ups and downs, right?

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, always going the extra mile to make sure you're happy with your drinks and food.
  • It has that classic old-school pub charm, perfect for a traditional local feel with a warm and cosy atmosphere.
  • The food can be spot on when it's available, like their hearty Sunday roasts and pies that leave you feeling properly satisfied.
Cons
  • The beer selection is a bit disappointing these days, mostly lagers and modern IPAs with no traditional cask ales in sight.
  • There's been a noticeable decline in the atmosphere and offerings, with some saying it's lost its spark and even lacks food options now.
  • Recent visits haven't been great, with a couple of folks mentioning it's feeling a bit empty and unwelcoming compared to before.

Sad to see the decline of this grand old lady. Visited for a pint, no cask 'traditional' beer. Not one. Just lagers and a few of the modern, awful antiseptic tasting lPAs. A pub that doesn't serve beer! Seems to be increasingly common. We left immediately. No beer, no business.

Seen the decline of the Eddie over the last few years. Visited recently and absolutely no atmosphere, no food. No anything anymore :-( Hoping for a massive change in ownership/manager/bar staff.

Super old school cool. We wanted a traditional local pub feel and got that in full. The manager was very friendly too. Grad a pint and enjoy.

A lovely little pub. Very warm and friendly. The young lady behind the bar couldn't do enough to make sure the people in the pub were content with their food/drinks. Will definitely be using it again when I am back down this way.

I had an incredible experience in this pub, I tried their Sunday roast, apple crumble with custard, Steak Ale Pie and cheesecake. The plates are served all hot with a great quantity of food. In both occasions that I ate there, I left very very satisfied and full. The food is delicious and I would definitely recommend this pub to anyone, it’s worth every penny. Consider yourself lucky if you’re staying close to the King Edward VII.
