About This Pub

Ah, Jacksons Wharf – it's one of those places that really captures the essence of a classic British pub, doesn't it? Picture this: you're sat outside on that spacious patio, gazing out at the historic HMS Trincomalee, with a pint of cask ale in hand and maybe a hearty mixed grill on the way. The atmosphere is spot on for families or a casual catch-up, with events like Wednesday pub quizzes and tempting offers like 30% off mains adding to the fun. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the food hits the spot when it's good, offering solid pub fare and a welcoming bar selection. But, and I have to be straight with you, it's not all smooth sailing – some mates have mentioned running into service woes, like meals arriving cold or having to hunt for basics like cutlery, which can be a bit frustrating on what should be a relaxing outing. Still, with an overall rating hovering around 4.1, it's clear the highs outweigh the lows for most, so if you're heading to Hartlepool, I'd say give it a go for those cracking views and vibe, just keep your expectations in check for the service side of things.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The views are absolutely stunning, right on Hartlepool Marina with a perfect backdrop of HMS Trincomalee – it's like eating with a bit of history on display, making it a real treat for a relaxed meal or drink.
  • It's a family-friendly spot with a large outdoor patio, great for soaking up the sun and enjoying the sea breeze, plus they've got events like pub quizzes and special offers that keep things lively.
  • The food menu has some solid pub classics and lighter bites, with options like cask ales from Marston's breweries – and who can resist a good deal like 30% off mains?
  • When the staff are on form, they're genuinely friendly and helpful, which makes the whole experience feel welcoming and personal.
Cons
  • Service can be inconsistent; some folks have had issues with cold food, missing items on their plates, or having to chase down drinks and cutlery, which puts a bit of a dampener on things.
  • A few reviews mention uninterested staff who seem a bit lazy, like not paying full attention, which might leave you feeling overlooked on a busy day.
  • The food quality varies – for instance, steaks coming out dry or eggs being too runny, so it's not always hitting the mark despite the tempting menu.
  • It might feel a tad out of the way if you're not local, making it less ideal for a quick pub crawl, though the views make up for it if you're up for the trip.

Used to be good. Food came cold. Had to go looking for our drinks order. Cleared my own tablet. Had to go looking for cutlery. The female staff were uninterested and lazy (feet on the bar, literally) . The male menber of staff was friendly and very busy (see above). I was there November 2024 and it was a very different bar. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS ESTABLISHMENT ANYMORE.

There was my mam and I. We both had separate meals. My mam had the small scampi & chips and I had the regular mixed grill. My mam was missing peas on her meal and the egg on my meal was very runny and Could have done with an extra minute. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

Very nice views, this place stands right after Hartlepool museum and it's sunny here in the morning and afternoon. I've ordered pint Moretti, surf turf steak and tomato soup. The soup was great! served with bread and butter. When the mains come, I didn't really enjoyed the fillet. It was too dry and not good. But I really got excited from chips and onion rings. They are perfectly crispy and cooked nice! I recommend this place as a nice pub, the atmosphere is really good.

Nice pub for a meal or a drink. Excellent view of the Marina from the back if it's sunny and a nice building with lots of character in the winter. Couple of cask ales on as well as Neck Oil. Not been in for a while because it's a little of the track for a beer pub crawl. But worth going for a meal or before the match or something like that ... Maybe even while the misses is at Asda 😁.
