About This Pub

Ah, Indie Craft Beer – it's one of those places that really gets my enthusiasm going for a good pint. From what I've gathered chatting about it with folks, it's all about that passion for independent brews, with a stellar lineup from brewers like Verdant and Deya that keeps things fresh and exciting. The atmosphere is just spot on; imagine sinking into a relaxed setting with some indie tunes playing, whether you're nipping in for a quick drink or settling in for the evening. They've got options galore on keg, cask, and even bottles to take away, which is dead handy. On the flip side, though, it's not perfect – some mates have mentioned it's a shame there's only the one cask ale, as it might not hit the mark for traditional ale fans who prefer a bit more variety in that department. Prices can add up a tad, and with limited seating downstairs, you might end up jostling for space on busier nights. Still, it's open from Wednesday through Sunday, giving you plenty of chances to swing by and give it a go. All in all, if you're after a genuine craft beer adventure in Kendal, it's well worth a visit, but just keep those little niggles in mind for a balanced night out.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • Fantastic selection of craft beers from local, national, and international brewers – it's a real treat for anyone keen on exploring new brews.
  • Relaxed and welcoming atmosphere, perfect for unwinding with a pint and some great indie music in the background.
  • Impressive variety on offer, including keg, cask, bottles, and cans, with regulars praising the well-kept ales and the option for takeaway.
  • Friendly service from what seems like a dedicated team, making it feel like a cosy spot to chat and enjoy a drink.
Cons
  • Limited real ale choices, with only one cask option available, which might disappoint those after a more traditional pub experience.
  • A bit on the pricey side for some tastes, especially with the craft keg brews, so it could hit the wallet harder than expected.
  • Seating can be tight downstairs, and it gets busy at times, which might make it tricky to find a spot during peak hours.
  • Closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, so you'll have to plan around that if you're popping in mid-week.

Always a great lineup of craft and the one cask ale plus a huge choice of cans to drink or takeaway.

A favourite bar of mine in Kendal, the beers are excellent and the vibe is relaxed. There is a great selection, both on keg (there is also 1 cask hand-pump) and also in bottles/cans. Photo of the ‘Opening Times’ chalkboard attached.

Cool little micro pub serving a good range of well kept ale. As the name suggests it plays “indie” music of the Manchester persuasion ( durutti column and the fall for me 😉) Limited seating downstairs but more upstairs. Recommended 🍻 🎸

I was very disappointed in thIS CAMRA 2024 Beer Guide entry. Only 1 real ale. I did not read the entry carefully enough. 12 changing beers are fizzy craft. I am not a fan and voted against CAMRA recognising over priced craft keg fizz. Nice enough bar over 3 levels plus outside pavement seating but NOT a real ale emporium according to Albrecht.

Cracking wee find in Kendal , if you like your craft/cask ales then look no further than here . Had about 12 beers on tap when we visited last weekend(take note of the ceiling adorned with pump clip badges) , very busy over the hour or so we spent there and for a 'one man band' operation he coped brilliantly with the customers . Also I doff my cap to the musical tastes of the owner , who had a fine array of Indie tunes playing in the background 👌🏻😎 If we didn't have a gig at Brewery Arts that evening we'd have probably spent all night there ..
