About This Pub

Ah, Il Pellegrino, what a gem of an Italian spot in Watford! From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the food is just spot on – think mouthwatering pizzas with that perfect thin and crispy base, or the grilled chicken that's packed with flavour and served just right. The service stands out too; the team there really know their stuff, keeping things efficient even when the place is hopping, which it often is given its popularity. It's got this warm, woody ambiance that makes you feel cosy and at ease, and it's ace for families or if you're out with a furry friend, as they welcome pets outside. Prices are fair for what you get, so you won't feel short-changed after a lovely three-course nosh. On the flip side, though, it does get packed, so you might end up waiting if you haven't booked ahead, and sorting out larger groups means a phone call rather than a quick online click. Still, overall, it's a solid choice for anyone after authentic Italian grub in a friendly setting – I'd say it's well worth a visit if you're in the area, as long as you plan accordingly!

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely delicious – think exceptional pizzas with a thin, crispy crust and outstanding grilled chicken with mushroom sauce; it's proper Italian fare that hits the spot every time.
  • Service is top-notch and really friendly; the staff handle a busy crowd like pros, making sure everything runs smoothly without any fuss.
  • The ambiance is warm and inviting, with a cozy, woody decor that makes you feel right at home, and it's spot on for families or if you're popping in with a pet outside.
  • Great value for money with affordable prices, especially for a hearty three-course meal, and it's child-friendly too, which is a bonus for family outings.
  • Booking is straightforward for groups up to 10, and the restaurant's in a handy spot in Watford, making it easy to find and visit.
Cons
  • It can get quite bustling and busy, which might mean a bit of a wait or needing to book well in advance to snag a table.
  • Online bookings are limited to parties of up to 10, so if you're planning a larger gathering, you'll have to give them a ring, which isn't ideal for spontaneity.
  • The website's a bit basic and doesn't offer much beyond menus and bookings, so you might not get all the details you're after without visiting or calling first.

We came to this restaurant on Friday and it was fairly busy when we got there. We had a beautiful 3 course meal and all the time we was there people were coming and going but the staff coped really well and the busyness never detracted from the quality of the service. We came from Doncaster where we live to visit our daughter who lives in Watford and we will definitely be coming back.

Excellent place to eat. Managed to reserve a table in the widow. Bustling busy restaurant with excellent service. Child friendly. Pets welcome outside. Food was good value and delicious. We don't go to Watford often but this is a place I will revisit.

Yesterday, me and my partner visited Il Pellegrino while traveling in Watford. The restaurant serve best Italian food in the town. Lovely background music with friendly staff. Price is affordable as well.

This Italian restaurant is a personal favorite; I discovered it serendipitously and highly recommend it. Their pizza, with its uniquely thin and crispy crust, is exceptional. The grilled chicken breast with mushroom sauce is also outstanding. The ambiance is cozy, featuring a warm, woody décor and subdued music. While service speed could be improved—we experienced some delays and needed to call the waiter—it remains a hidden gem, offering a delightful dining experience capped by an excellent dessert.
