About This Pub

Ah, the Honor Oak – it's one of those pubs that just draws you in with its charm and history, dating back to 1865 and nestled between Forest Hill and Honor Oak. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the food is a real highlight; their Sunday roasts are spot on, with generous servings of beef or chicken that folks rave about, and the menu cleverly mixes pub classics with global flavours, making it a treat for all tastes. Pair that with a perfectly poured pint of Laine's beer, and you've got a winning combo for a relaxed afternoon or evening. The events are another plus – think monthly drag shows and live bands that create such a fun, welcoming vibe, plus it's great for families with kid-friendly options and a garden that's lovely when the weather plays ball. On the downside, though, it's not without its quirks; access in certain spots isn't the best, so it might not be ideal for everyone, and it can fill up quickly, meaning you'll want to plan ahead to avoid disappointment. All in all, it's a solid spot for a catch-up with mates, offering that perfect blend of tradition and a good time, but just keep an eye on those opening times to make the most of it.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The Sunday roasts are absolutely brilliant, with generous portions and flavours that hit the spot every time.
  • They've got a cracking atmosphere, especially with fun events like the monthly drag show and live bands that really liven things up.
  • It's wonderfully family-friendly, offering a kids' menu and a charming garden that's perfect for soaking up the sun on rare nice days.
  • The pub feels like a real community hub, blending classic pub vibes with a rich history and a welcoming feel for everyone.
Cons
  • Access can be a bit tricky in some areas, like the upstairs function room, which might not suit folks with mobility needs.
  • It tends to get quite busy, so you might struggle to find a table without booking ahead, especially on Sundays.
  • The opening hours seem a tad inconsistent, with some listings suggesting earlier closes, which could catch you out if you're planning a late one.

Wonderful gastro pub with a good selection of drinks on tap. The monthly drag show, drag me out, every second Saturday of the month, is absolutely fantastic. The atmosphere is welcoming and fun and I can't believe it's not drawing a massive crowd.

We were lucky enough to reserve and visit on a Sunday before the pub started getting busy. Bots our Sunday roasts (one beef, one chicken) were magnificent and tge portions, very generous. We've been keen on getting in for a roast for some time now and I can tell you that the walk to and fro Catford was well woeth it! Can't recommend it enough!

This is the Gem of the Honor Oak Pub located next to the Brokley Rice bus stop. The pub is well decorated and it has a garden too which is perfect for sunny days (if we are lucky to get them in London). The pub is kids friendly - kids menu included and kids stools accessible on request. They have a good selection of beer on draft and burgers too. The staff is friendly and helpful. I would suggest visiting this place in the evening time as they have a nice lighting set and interior atmosphere. A Take-away option is available. You can park on side roads within a walkable distance of the pub, which is great.

I stopped there for an unplanned lunch and I must say that it surprised me! This pub has a great variety of food, and has way more healthy options then other pubs, for example, I ate seabass with new potatoes and asparagus. I’d love to go back sometime in the evening and see what’s up. Would recommend!
