About This Pub

Ah, Homeboy Bar – it's one of those places that really warms you up with its modern Irish hospitality, right in the thick of Islington. I have to say, the cocktails are a highlight; they're expertly crafted with a focus on Irish producers, and whether you're into classics or something more contemporary, there's something to suit every taste. The live music and DJ nights add such a fun energy, making it ideal for a night out with mates, and the staff are genuinely engaging, always ready with a story or tip about the drinks. On the flip side, though, I've heard a few grumbles about the pricing – that extra service charge can sneak up on you, and some portions feel a bit on the small side for the cost, which might leave you wanting more bang for your buck. Still, if you're up for a bit of adventure and don't mind splashing out, it's a gem that brings a taste of Ireland to London, with events like cocktail masterclasses adding that extra layer of enjoyment. All in all, it's a solid choice for a memorable evening, as long as you go in with your eyes open to the occasional downside.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The cocktails are absolutely spot on – especially the Irish whiskey ones, which really showcase some fantastic flavours and creativity.
  • The atmosphere is brilliant, with live music on Thursdays and Sundays, and DJ nights to get the weekend going – it's a proper lively spot for a good time.
  • Staff are so welcoming and knowledgeable; they make you feel right at home, and the cocktail masterclasses are a fun way to learn something new while enjoying top-notch drinks.
  • They've got a great selection of Irish beers and food that hits the spot, like delicious pub grub with an Irish twist.
  • Overall, it's a welcoming place with a cosy vibe that celebrates Irish hospitality in the heart of Islington.
Cons
  • Prices can feel a bit steep, like when a cocktail ends up costing more than advertised due to service charges, which might catch you off guard.
  • Some drinks come in smaller glasses than you'd expect, making them seem a tad overpriced for the portion.
  • It might not be the best choice if you're after a quiet night, as the events and music can make it quite bustling at times.

Charging £13.50 for a cocktail advertised £12 on the menu. When challenged at the bar, the bartender said it was for "for service charge". So £1.50 for service. Also the cocktail is a small prosecco glass. I have put the glass for reference. Unbelievable and would not recommend. Understand it's London and things are expensive but this is taking the piss. I forgot to mention that the cocktail was pre-made in a dirty plastic bottle.

We did the masterclass with Will and had the best time. The drinks were excellent but what made the difference was Will’s knowledge and charisma. He tailored our experience to our preferences and has fantastic stories behind each drink. It was also brilliant value. The masterclass was around the same price, if not better, than buying the drinks individually. Highly highly recommend.

Terrific bar, serving really good quality cocktails and importantly top notch pints of plain. There's a huge selection of Irish whiskeys along with a large selection of other spirits. Every time I've been there you're welcomed by a friendly barman, who are always happy to help out on drink selections. It gets very busy as it's quite small but I've sat at the bar a few times and as the bar staff are quite chatty and funny that's made for a fun visit.

One of the best cocktails I’ve had recently. Great atmosphere, they often have live music on. Delish Irish pub food & snacks, highly recommend the fried chicken in baguette.
