About This Pub

Ah, Hillfield Farm in Solihull – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a reliable go-to for a hearty feed without breaking the bank. I have to say, the carvery steals the show; it's fresh, piping hot, and they've got such a great selection that leaves you spoilt for choice – perfect if you're a fan of a good roast any day of the week. The staff really add to the charm too; they're genuinely warm and make the place feel inviting, whether you're popping in for breakfast or a full meal. Plus, with all those handy facilities like disabled access and a car park, it's dead easy to swing by, especially if you're with the family. On the flip side, though, service isn't always on point – it can get a bit hit or miss when things are buzzing, and you might find yourself waiting around more than you'd like in that all-you-can-eat rush. Oh, and if you're after a peaceful spot away from the hustle, it might not be your cup of tea, as seating can sometimes land you in busier areas. All in all, it's a solid choice for a casual get-together, but keep expectations realistic for a true pub experience – the good bits definitely outweigh the niggles if you're in the mood for something straightforward and enjoyable.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The carvery here is absolutely spot on – it's hot, fresh, and packed with a brilliant variety of veggies and meats that really hit the spot.
  • The staff are so welcoming and friendly; they make you feel right at home from the moment you walk in, which adds a lovely touch to the whole experience.
  • It's super family-friendly with plenty of facilities like a car park, WiFi, and even an indoor play area, making it ideal for a relaxed day out.
  • Being inexpensive, it's a wallet-friendly option for a good meal, and the breakfast and roast deals sound like proper treats to start your day or weekend.
Cons
  • Service can be a bit inconsistent, especially in a busy all-you-can-eat setup, where you might not get as much attention as you'd hope.
  • Seating arrangements aren't always perfect – you might end up in the kids' play area when you'd rather not, which could put a damper on things.
  • It's not the place if you're after a quiet, fancy dinner; the vibe is more casual and pub-like, so it might feel a tad overwhelming at times.

Went here for the first time yesterday with a friend. We are both carvery lovers so had one each...large size of course! I can honestly say it was the best carvery I have had. 1) the food was hot. 2) the food was fresh. 3) the choice of veg was excellent..a good variety and 4) it was tasty and NOT bland. The Service was friendly, professional and attentive. The price was good and I would go as far as to say we found that the price, on a par with a leading carvery restaurant chain, gave us more than said carvery chain. We are now converts to this restaurant and will be visiting again soon. Thanks for a great experience.

You can't expect any service in a pub which is providing All You Can Eat. I met one or two waitresses here who were nice and provided service in the past few visits. Foods are not bad compared to other pubs/restaurants. I will come again if I feel super hungry. It's definitely not a good place if you want a service or a clean environment.

Checked out this place. I'm glad I did. Victoria, the manager, is a lovely person. Very welcoming made me feel welcomed when I entered the pub. She and her partner are very professional, which I witnessed as customers entered the pub. I went for the buffet breakfast option. After eating my first dish. I was too full to go for seconds. They offer 15% discount for blue light card members. They are family friendly and have a great play area for children to explore and play in. Food - Good quality and good value for your money. Service - Very welcoming and professional. Atmosphere - Quiet due to being a morning time. Customers started to come as I was going. However, the place is very clean, welcoming, and cosy, and I will definitely would visit again. 100% recommend this place if you are visiting or nearby in the Shirley area.

We arrived today at an arranged time was shown to our table it was in the kids play area . When we booked we asked for a family area not in the play area . We approached a member of staff who said it was full. The tables looked like they was dragged out of storage to make room for people . So it was either stay or go elsewhere . We decided to stay as could not book anywhere else on short notice . We ordered a drink it was flat they replaced it and it was the same so just left it meal was ok but when the play area got busy it was terrible trying to enjoy your meal not blaming the kids as it's their area and think you should not put customers in that area. So we decided we shall not return after many years going there . Family of 9.
