About This Pub

Ah, the Highwood—it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper local haunt, you know? From what I've gathered chatting about it, folks absolutely rave about the welcoming atmosphere; it's got this lively vibe with show nights, sports on the screens, and even a pool table and dartboard to keep the fun going. The staff really stand out too—they're polite, professional, and always up for a chat, which makes every visit feel a bit special. Plus, it's budget-friendly, with reasonable prices on drinks and that stylish refurbishment giving it a fresh, modern edge, especially in the outdoor area on a nice day. They're spot on for events as well, like hiring out the function room for something meaningful, where they've been incredibly accommodating. On the flip side, it's a shame there's no website to easily look up what's on or the full menu, and the opening hours can be a bit muddled, so you might end up planning around that. Overall, though, it's a solid choice if you're after a place that brings the community together—sure, there might be the occasional hiccup based on the average rating, but the positives far outweigh any niggles, and I'd say it's well worth popping in for a proper British pub experience.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The atmosphere is absolutely brilliant—it's got that warm, welcoming vibe that makes you feel right at home, with plenty of entertainment options like show nights and sports on the telly.
  • Staff are super friendly and professional; they're always polite and go the extra mile, whether it's helping with events or just serving up a pint with a smile.
  • It's a hidden gem for community gatherings, with a stylish refurbishment, a great outdoor area for a sunny day, and fun activities like pool and darts to keep things lively.
  • Prices are spot on for a good night out—reasonable and affordable, making it easy on the wallet without skimping on quality.
  • They've got a fantastic function room that's perfect for special occasions, and it's flexible enough to let you bring your own touches, which is a real bonus for events like wakes or parties.
Cons
  • There isn't a website listed, so it's a bit tricky to check out menus or events online before heading over, which might put some off if they're planning ahead.
  • The operating hours seem a tad confusing with varying schedules, like some Sundays ending early, so you might want to double-check to avoid disappointment if you're hoping for a late one.
  • While the reviews we've seen are glowing, the overall rating of 4.1 suggests there might be the odd off day or inconsistency in service that isn't captured here, so it pays to go in with realistic expectations.

This pub has such a great vibe. Professional and polite staff. Many different show nights that cater to all. It really is a brilliant little pub.

We hired this function room for a wake after my mum's funeral. To say they were amazing is an understatement. The room was free yet they let us bring all our own food and they put it in a chiller for us. Then as my brother out friend and I were discussing amongst ourselves what we needed to do to sort the food and it would have to wait until after the funeral as we were out of time, Hayley (I hope I'm remembering her name right I have been very stressed and upset so my memory isn't great right now), kindly offered that the staff would put it out for us. They were friendly and service at the bar was great despite being very busy at times. The room itself is great and just what you need for a medium sized gathering of any kind. I wouldn't hesitate to hire this again for a happier occasion. When we nipped back for our cars and I left my adult daughters I asked them to do a final clean up their staff offered to do it and said we could leave it. We didn't as I didn't feel that would be right but the offer was appreciated.

There are two words to describe The Highwood "Hidden Gem". I love my visits there, great beer in a pub with a great atmosphere and to top it off staff are super friendly. There are TV's in both the lounge and bar for watching sports, it even has a pool table and a dartboard. If you love a good night out, the live music and karaoke nights are a must. Well worth a visit!

We only popped in for a quick drink to wish the new landlords well. There has been a stylish refurbishment and there are lots of drinks and entertainment options at reasonable prices. There is also a great outside area. We can see the new team are really keen to make this into a cracking community pub. Good job!
