About This Pub

Oh, Highbury Vaults is one of those pubs that just warms your heart the moment you walk in – it's got that classic, timeless charm with its leather benches and snug bar that makes you want to settle in for the evening. I love how it's tucked away near Bristol University and the hospital, making it a go-to spot for a mix of students, locals, and even the odd academic or medic. The hidden walled garden is an absolute delight, especially on a sunny day when you can sip on a spritz or one of their excellent real ales while enjoying summer events like BBQs and live music – it's just the ticket for a relaxed afternoon. The beer selection is spot on, with guest ales and Young's options that really hit the mark, and don't even get me started on those homemade sausage rolls; they're proper tasty and pair brilliantly with a pint. But, to be fair, it's not all perfect – I've heard a few tales of service slips, like overly small portions or a rude response from staff when things go awry, which could sour an otherwise lovely visit. Still, with such a high rating overall, I'd say it's well worth popping in; just keep your expectations in check and you'll likely have a cracking time sharing stories over a drink with mates.

Cons
  • There have been a few complaints about inconsistent service, like one instance where the assistant manager was quite rude over portion sizes.
  • Prices can feel a bit steep for what you get, such as small shots that don't quite live up to expectations, which might leave you feeling short-changed.
  • While most reviews are positive, the occasional negative experience could put a dampener on your visit if you're unlucky.

Met a few friends in here for a drink or two - nice outside space, friendly staff, good range of beers if that's your thing too.

Ordered 2 baby guinnesses for almost £11 received 2 half shots. I asked if they were full shots to which I was told yes. Went back in and asked again, the assistant manager said they serve 16.6ml shots for baby guinnesses. The assistant manager was very rude. Having worked in hospitality for a number of years, I’ve never known a baby Guinness shot to be sold as such a short measure. Will not be returning after years of custom.

This is one of my fave pubs in Bristol. It’s so cozy and in the best possible way you feel like you’ve stepped back in time. My boyfriend says it does the best Guinness in Bristol and we also love the sausage rolls. The staff are all great too.

Awesome pub. Sam was our barkeep and made us feel welcome. Beautiful beer garden and charming pub in general. There is an adorable toy train that runs through the walls, which was a whimsical surprise. Thanks for the great drinks and conversation!
