About This Pub

Ah, the Guy Fawkes Inn – it's one of those places that really captures the spirit of York, isn't it? Tucked away in the city centre, it's got this incredible historic feel, like you're wandering into a story from the past, and I love how they offer free guided walking tours to dive even deeper into the local tales. The food is a proper treat; think rich, comforting British classics that leave you feeling well satisfied, with the sticky toffee pudding being an absolute must-try – it's spot on for a cosy evening. Service-wise, the team are always chipping in with a smile and quick attention, which makes the whole experience feel relaxed and enjoyable. On the flip side, it does come at a price, and if you're after something more budget-friendly or specific like vegetarian options, you might find it a bit lacking. Still, for a solid night out with great grub and that authentic atmosphere, it's well worth a visit – just pop in with an open mind and maybe book ahead to avoid any hassle!

We came in for a drink and decided to stay for dinner. The little dining room was booked but we ate adjacent to the bar. Lucky us. Really good food and attentive service. Walked out stuffed with deliciousness. Don’t miss the sticky toffee pudding. One of the best.

The Guy Faulks is in a great location. The room was excellent and very clean with everything that you could need. With a nice comfortable four poster bed. It’s a little bit more expensive than some other nearby but its quality is worth paying a bit more. I’ve stayed at the Golden Fleece several times now. It’s good but I’d say that this is where I would want to stay in future when I next visit York. Overall I was very impressed! 😎

First the good...GREAT location next to the Cathedral and all the tourist stuff. Fantastic pub, If we were just rating the pub we would have given it 5 stars, great food and service. The room (4 poster bed) was wonderfully quirky with great decor, crooked floors and staircase. Now the not so good...there is no dedicated hotel staff. You check in at the bar and that is the last you interact about your room until check out. The pub is closed until around 11 am and when you come down the stairs none of the staff even greet you let alone see if you need anything. We finally did see the housekeeper and asked for wash clothes, they did not have any. The provided cups and glasses were not replaced evey day (we stayed 4 nights). The mirror in the bathroom was so high on the wall my 5'2" wife could not see herself to change contacts or put on makeup, she had to stand on the ottoman and bend down awkwardly. The only time any of the pub staff asked about our stay was at check out. The building next to was covered with scaffolding (see picture) but hotel did not let us know. Overall it was a fun stay but we will go somewhere else next time.

Thoroughly enjoyed this historic pub. The service was very friendly and quick. There weren’t a lot of appealing vegetarian options, a veggie pie would be a nice addition. Loved the atmosphere and the history. Tasty chips!

Lovely atmosphere, tasty pie and friendly service ! It was Saturday night so the pub was busy - didn’t expect to find a table without booking, but we managed to find a table in the garden area with a big heater. We ordered steak and ale pie which was rather exceptional with lots of chunky meat and flaky crust. Started to rain a bit, a friendly staff suggested we moved to a tented area with fairly lighting. A lovely touch. Overall very pleasant experience.
