About This Pub
Oh, let me tell you about the Green Tree – it's this quaint red-bricked pub tucked away in Messingham, Scunthorpe, and it's got that classic feel where you can pop in for a pint and some telly. From what I've gathered from the reviews, the food really shines through; folks are raving about the home-made dishes with heaps of fresh veg and generous servings, like those Sunday dinners that sound proper hearty. The staff often get a thumbs up for being friendly and attentive, which makes it a lovely spot to unwind, especially if you're into live sports or just fancy a chat over a drink. But, and I have to be straight with you, it's not all roses – the beer garden's in a right state with broken bits and hazards, which could spoil things if you're hoping for a safe outdoor space. Plus, there are grumbles about the toilets smelling off and some meals not hitting the mark, like overly greasy gravy that left one person disappointed. Overall, it's worth a visit if you're local and fancy a reliable feed, but maybe keep expectations in check for the extras; it's got potential to be a real gem with a bit of TLC.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The food here is absolutely spot on – plenty of rave reviews about the home-made meals, with generous portions and fresh ingredients that leave you feeling well satisfied.
-
Staff are generally lovely and welcoming, always ready to make you feel at home, which really adds to the cosy pub atmosphere.
-
It's a great spot for catching live sports on the telly, making it ideal for a relaxed evening with mates.
-
Outdoor seating is a nice touch when the weather's playing ball, giving you that chance to enjoy a pint in the fresh air.
Cons
-
The beer garden is a bit of a letdown, with broken tables and hazards like holes and debris, which isn't ideal for families or just lounging about.
-
Hygiene could do with some improvement; one mention of a dodgy smell in the toilets that might put you off your drink.
-
Food quality isn't always consistent – some dishes have come across as greasy or watery, which is a shame when the good ones are so tasty.
-
Service can be hit or miss; while some experiences are brilliant, others note that the staff aren't quite up to scratch.

No food on so can't rate, smelt like drains in the toilet, beer garden terrible staff not much better. The tables outside are all broken holes in the garden so kids can't run around metal and glass all over . What a waste of a pub garden the landlady needs to get her act together it was lovely when Marie owned it, she witnessed my dad 70 standing up, her broken table colapsing, 5 drinks gone and said it was a weight issue and she wouldn't refill the drinks
Highly recommend this place. The food is amazing we got a regular and there was more than enough. All fresh veg and you got loads of meat. The staff are really friendly too and cannot do enough for you.
This is the meal that we received for our 73 year old Gran. The gravy was nothing but grease, every time, and she couldn’t even eat it. These meals were sent unwillingly so unaware how much they cost, but I wouldn’t put them down to a dog. Would never recommend, no matter the price.
We called today family of 4 had a Sunday dinner each, great service food was great apart from veg was a little watery other than that the dinner was fantastic, we shall definitely be coming back, thank you green tree
We pop in after a walk for a first time visit for lunch and it was lovely, very friendly landlady who welcomed us in, the food was beautiful home cooked and very well priced.
Will definitely call again and make sure we try the Sunday cavery that must be a winner.
