About This Pub

Ah, let me tell you about the Great Baddow Barn – it's one of those pubs that really pulls you in with its warm, lively atmosphere, especially if you're out with the family. From the website and what folks are saying, it's clear they do a smashing job on the affordability front, with those £10 weekday specials making it easy to tuck into some tasty grub without breaking the bank. The staff seem like a friendly bunch, always ready with a smile and quick service, which makes the place feel like a proper community hub. Plus, with extras like indoor play areas and parking, it's spot on for a relaxed day out. On the other hand, I've heard a few grumbles about the play facilities being out of action for ages, which could put a damper on things if that's your main draw. And while the food's generally good value, it's not always spot-on – some reviews mention disappointing bits like frozen veg in kids' meals or items missing from the menu, which might leave you wanting more. All in all, it's a solid choice for a casual visit, but it'd be wise to check ahead and keep things in perspective for a balanced experience.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • It's incredibly affordable, with weekday deals like meals for just £10, making it a brilliant spot for a budget-friendly outing.
  • The atmosphere is lively and welcoming, perfect for families with a real homely feel that makes you want to linger.
  • Service is quick and friendly, with staff going the extra mile to make everyone feel special, especially during events like breakfast with Santa.
  • They've got top-notch facilities, including indoor and outdoor play areas, WiFi, and plenty of parking, which adds to the convenience.
Cons
  • The play areas can be closed for weeks at a time, which is a real letdown if you're relying on them for the kids.
  • Food quality varies – some dishes fall short, like frozen corn on the cob in kids' meals, which doesn't live up to expectations.
  • Certain items might be off the menu, limiting your choices and leaving you a bit disappointed on busier days.
  • Recent feedback suggests the overall experience has had a few dips, with some meals not quite hitting the mark despite the great value.

It's been a long time since i was here with my family. We just had drinks only so cannot comment on the food. Service was very quick and a nice place to go to.

I come here often with my kids. The food is lovely and as expected for the price we pay. We try and get to their special events (breakfast with santa/ easter bunny) and even though my children are older now the staff always make them feel special. All round a great family pub with friendly staff

Hello everybody, I attempted to have a nice bank holiday meal with my family before returning my son to his mother, we decided to stop off and have some dinner The kids meal (regardless wether it’s worth a £1) no child should receive frozen corn on the cob Also I haven’t had steak in ages and thought I would enjoy a mix grill however the chicken and steak tasted off and returned this back to the staff and said “this is worst meal I’ve had” they did offer me a new meal but I have horrible taste in my mouth. I’m not sure if this always like this, but for a bank holiday Monday this needs to be better for families

One of the biggest attractions of this pub and the reason me and everyone I know goes is because it’s family friendly and has indoor soft play and an outdoor play area. Both of these have been closed for WEEKS now. I totally understand if things need to be closed for maintenance for a short while but there is absolutely no excuse for both play areas to be closed for weeks on end. Considering how big a part of the business this is, it’s shocking to me how no one in the company or on site hasn’t dealt with the situation. Especially with summer coming around and the garden is all blocked off. Sort it out seriously.

Great Baddow Barn is a large family pub, with plenty of parking, parking entrance is to the left of the building if looking from the road, we went past and had to turn around. We visit Tuesday after Bank Holiday weekend and couple of the food items I picked was off menu, the food was excellent value. Both staff members who we interactive with were very friendly and helpful. There is outside play area and the actual barn area is 18+ only so room for all. Overall it looks impressive but there are bit that look an update is needed. The best part of our visit was the desserts.
