About This Pub

You know, I've got to say, Girdwoods Bar really stands out as one of those welcoming spots in Wishaw that just gets the balance right for a good time. From the moment you walk in, the staff are so approachable and attentive, making sure everyone's sorted, whether it's for a quick beer or a full evening of live music – they've been supporting local bands for over 20 years, which is brilliant to see. The drink selection is spot on too, with everything from classic lagers to a wide range of gins and cocktails, and it's all pretty affordable, so you won't break the bank. Plus, with Sky and BT Sports playing on the screens, it's ideal if you're into your footie or rugby. On the flip side, it does get packed on weekends, which can make it feel a bit hectic if you're hoping for a peaceful chat, and they don't have much going on for food beyond buffets for parties, so you might want to grab a bite beforehand. All in all, it's a solid choice for anyone looking for a friendly pub with a bit of energy – I'd definitely recommend giving it a try if you're in the area, but maybe aim for a quieter midweek visit if that's your thing.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and make you feel right at home, always going the extra mile to look after everyone.
  • It's got a brilliant atmosphere with live music every Friday and Saturday, plus Sky and BT Sports on the big screens – perfect for a night out or catching the game.
  • They've got a fantastic selection of drinks, from quality beers like Tennents and Peroni to over 50 gins and great cocktails, all at reasonable prices.
  • Super convenient location, just a minute's walk from Wishaw railway station, making it easy to pop in after work or for a quick pint.
  • It's a great spot for private functions, with a lounge that holds up to 80 people and options for buffets – ideal for birthdays or celebrations.
Cons
  • It can get really busy on weekends, which might make it a bit overwhelming if you're after a quiet drink.
  • There doesn't seem to be much in the way of regular food options, just buffets for events, so you might need to head elsewhere if you're peckish.
  • The operating status is a tad unclear from what I've seen, but it looks like they're open most evenings, so it's worth double-checking before you go.

Though was my first visit, it seemed like a nice pub with a friendly barmaid, Carla, behind the bar and just a handful of customers enjoying their afternoon out. Prices were reasonable.
