About This Pub

Ah, the George & Dragon – it's one of those local pubs that really hits the spot for a casual get-together with mates. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the food is a standout; you can snag some seriously good deals, like two meals for £12, and the menu has classics done right, with proper portions and even some healthy veggies thrown in. It's dead family-friendly too, ideal for a Sunday roast or just popping in with the kids, and the staff are generally cheerful and on the ball, making you feel right at home. Plus, if you're into live sports, it's a top choice with all the big games on screen and a cosy beer garden to enjoy a pint in. On the flip side, it's not all perfect – I've heard a few tales of waits for food that go on a bit too long, or meals that turn up lukewarm rather than hot, which could put a damper on things, especially on busy days like Father's Day. Still, with such a solid overall feel and plenty of positive vibes from regulars, I'd say it's worth giving it a go for an affordable night out, just maybe keep expectations in check for the service side of things.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food deals are brilliant – you can feed a family of four for just £20, including drinks for the little ones, making it a wallet-friendly spot for a bite.
  • The grub is spot on, with tasty options like perfectly cooked steaks and fluffy fish that leave you wanting more, plus it's nutritious with proper veggies.
  • The staff are lovely and welcoming, always with a smile and quick to serve, creating a friendly family environment that's just right for a relaxed visit.
  • It's a great place for catching live sports, with big screens showing events like the Women's Euros, and they've got amenities like a beer garden and WiFi to boot.
Cons
  • Service can sometimes drag a bit, like when ordering at the bar takes ages or meals arrive late and not piping hot, which might spoil the mood.
  • There have been instances where the food isn't quite up to scratch, such as overcooked chips or dry chicken, so it might not always hit the mark.

Booked a table for 6 on Father’s Day. Had to order at the bar as app wasn’t working it took 20 minutes for the first 2 meals to arrive. They consisted of over cooked dry chips and very dry chicken both meals were warm not hot These meals were finished before the other 4 were brought out after having to go and ask where they were. The best part of the meal was the small portion of apple crumble. Yes it was Father’s Day and probably busier than usual Would I return again no

Never been here before but was taken here for a birthday meal and the food was absolutely amazing, fish was light and fluffy with no Greece whatsoever and just a lovely friendly family environment. I can’t wait to come back here and work my way through the menu. The staff are so fast and efficient and very pleasant and helpful. Wish all pubs whet like this, Think I’ve found a favourite for sure. Thank you to all the staff for the amazing food and great service.

You can feed a family of four for £20, and that includes two kids drinks (two beers will bump this to £30 if you're drinking). The meals have vegetables, and they're always done "properly". This makes them cheaper and more nutritious than most options for busy families that don't want to cook for a night. The service is really nice, they're always kind to the kids and they have a collection of toys (naturally, missing a few pieces here and there, but clean) to keep them entertained while waiting for the food. Their beer isn't going to blow you out of the water but standards like speckled hen are on offer and the prices are reasonable. But for families this local is a credit to the community, and has become our default choice for any dinners (and, at the weekend, breakfasts) we don't want to cook.

Been coming in the George for few weeks now after not being here for couple of years. Food menu has changed and is really good. Two meals for £12 on certain days. Can not complain one bit. Bar staff actually have a smile on their faces and make you feel welcome. Quiz nights music pool table live football all a bonus. Dog friendly

One of the best Sirloin steaks in a long time cooked to perfection and well balanced seasoning… Plate empty orgasmic what a great chef on tonight. Asked to have a wee word with the Chef she nervously came out and after talking with Hannah the chef and congratulating her on the Steak perfection she was very grateful for the feedback…… what a star you have in the making. I eat out all week every week due to my work and this is my go to pub for the staff engagement and the food quality
