About This Pub
Oh, The Elizabethan in Stockport is one of those pubs that just feels like a proper local favourite, you know? It's got this rich history dating back to 1874, with charming décor and a beer garden that's just perfect for soaking up the sun on a nice day. From what I've gathered from folks' experiences, the food really shines – think fresh seasonal plates and classic pub grub that's cooked just right, without breaking the bank too much. The staff are an absolute delight, always going the extra mile to make sure everyone's happy, whether you're in for a birthday bash or a casual Sunday roast. It's got a welcoming, relaxed atmosphere that's spot on for all sorts of occasions, and the drinks selection is spot on too, with plenty of cask ales and cocktails to choose from. That said, it does get buzzing on weekends, so you might find yourself jostling for space, and while the prices are fair, they might not suit if you're after something super budget-friendly. All in all, it's a solid spot that strikes a nice balance – I'd say it's well worth a visit if you're in the area and fancy a pint with a side of good vibes.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The food is absolutely spot on – fresh seasonal dishes like pan-fried seabass and hearty pub classics that leave you wanting more.
-
The staff are incredibly friendly and attentive, making you feel right at home, whether you're popping in for a quick pint or celebrating with a big group.
-
It's got that lovely historic charm with quirky décor and a beer garden, perfect for a relaxed afternoon or evening out.
-
Great selection of cask ales, cocktails, and reasonably priced drinks, making it a top choice for a proper pub experience.
-
Ideal for special occasions, with a cosy atmosphere that's welcoming for families, romantic dinners, or just catching up with mates.
Cons
-
It can get a bit busy at peak times, so you might have to wait for a table or deal with a lively crowd.
-
The moderate price level means it's not the cheapest option around, which could add up if you're planning a long session.
-
Opening hours might vary slightly, and if it's a quieter day, the vibe could feel a tad subdued compared to busier spots.

Really lovely evening - great place to gather as a large group (for a birthday celebration in our case). Food was delicious and the service (we were tended to by Saskia) was attentive and friendly. Cosy atmosphere too - will be returning!
Steve and Jake exceptional service, showed me the menu and what to order, and brought food and drinks to my table. Emily was the one who served me and fed my dog some treats and biscuits! Lovely staff!
We went in with the family for Easter Monday there was 14 of us. Nikki and her team could not have been more welcoming and could not have done enough for us. From the minute we walked in to leaving we were treated with exceptional service. The food was amazing and so was the beer. We will most definitely be returning soon. Thanks again nikki and team you were outstanding 5star service all the way.
Booked lunch for Mother’s Day what can I say absolutely beautiful greeted by friendly smiley staff, nothing was too much effort everyone getting along general manager floating around and I must say what a lovely lady she was and obviously respected by her staff team work doings to mind.

Genuinely could not fault the place. Will definitely return and 100% recommend. Well done to management front of house and kitchen staff thank you for a lovely experience. See you soon 👍👍👍
Lovely pub with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Staff very friendly and the bar had a great selection of drinks as you would expect from a J W Lees pub. Food was reasonably priced and served hot and fresh. Been twice now and both times been really impressed so highly recommend. The fish and chips and the Philly steak sandwich are both great meals I world suggest to try
