About This Pub
Ah, Fountain House – it's one of those spots in Manchester that just feels like a proper gem, tucked away near the historic Albert Square. I've got to say, the food here is a real standout; their seasonal dishes and Sunday roasts are packed with flavour and creativity, making it a brilliant choice for a relaxed lunch or a catch-up with mates. The service is another highlight – the team are so attentive and cheerful, always ready with a smile and helpful advice, which really makes you feel at home. Plus, with all those great deals like the Prix Fixe menu and happy hour offers, it's easy on the wallet too. On the flip side, it's a shame it's closed on Mondays, as that limits your options for a spontaneous visit, and I've heard a few folks mention that some dishes could use a bit more texture to balance things out. Also, if you're popping in during off-peak times, you might find certain areas like the bottom floor aren't open, which could cramp the space a tad. Overall, it's a welcoming place that's perfect for families or even bringing the dog along, and with its views and event options, it's got that something special – just keep those little niggles in mind for the best experience.
Pros and Cons
Pros

The food is absolutely delicious with innovative flavours that really hit the spot – think inventive dishes like kimchi tempura and tasty Sunday roasts that leave you wanting more.
-
Service is spot on; the staff are welcoming, attentive, and go the extra mile, like our server Alex who made the visit memorable.
-
It's in a fantastic location overlooking Albert Square, perfect for a casual drink on the terrace or a special occasion in their event spaces.
-
Great value with deals like the Prix Fixe menu and 2 for 1 drinks, making it an affordable treat in the city centre.
-
Family and dog-friendly vibe, plus plenty of options for events and private hire, so it's versatile for all sorts of get-togethers.
Cons
-
It's closed on Mondays, which can be a bit of a downer if you're planning a mid-week outing.
-
Some dishes might fall a tad short on texture or variety, like that panzanella that was tasty but could do with a bit more crunch.
-
The bottom floor is sometimes closed, especially in quieter months, so you might not get the full experience every time.
-
It can feel a bit rushed if you're there near closing time, as one visit showed it wasn't at its bustling best.

Great food with fantastic flavours.
Panzanella had a rainbow medley of tomatoes with a really tasty burella. It was missing a bit more texture/bread, however very filling.
Kimchi tempura was inventive and unusual. Again, really good flavours with coconut yoghurt a good compliment.
Steaks were cooked to perfection (minor but would've preferred steak knives).
Berry crumble was perfect with a crunchy flaked almond topping.
Had a great 3 course Sunday roast. Every course was amazing. I’d never been here or even heard of this place before but will deffo be recommending to mates. A particular highlight was our server Alex C, he took great care of us and was great.
Last minute change of plans meant we booked at short-notice but the staff were welcoming, attentive and service was delivered with a smile.
Alex C ran through any limitations to the menu and advised us of alternatives where necessary.
The Sunday roast options were delicious and came with generous helpings of gravy. We opted for the Lamb and the meat fell apart beautifully. I was indecisive about dessert but Alex helped choose between the options and it all paired lovely together.
The pub was closing a short while after I turned up, so it's hard to gauge what it's like on a normal busy evening.
That said, the staff were very friendly and efficient and it does look like a very nice place.
There was one family playing games, and they seemed to be having a great time..
As usual, I haven't rated the food as I didn't eat here.
Took my friends to Fountain House by Manchester Town Hall for Sunday roast. 10/10. They were reluctant, but ultimately won over. Food is excellent, with lots of choice, and good price for city centre. Service is spot on and the restaurant is beautiful, although the bottom floor is closed Jan/Feb.
