About This Pub
Ah, the Emperors Head in Stevenage – it's one of those pubs that's had a bit of a makeover lately, and from what I've gathered from the reviews, it's shaping up nicely under the new team. You can tell people are appreciating the fresh, clean interior and the friendlier atmosphere, which makes it a great spot for popping in with the family or even the dog for some outside seating and a bit of fun like that bouncy castle they've got going. They're serving food now too, which is a nice addition, and the drinks selection seems solid for a casual evening. It's open seven days a week until midnight, so it's reliable for those impromptu meet-ups. On the other hand, it's not all roses – a couple of reviews point out times when beer was nowhere to be found, which is a real shame for a place like this. There are also mentions of staff not always being as attentive, and the furniture looking a bit tired and in need of a refresh, which can take the edge off the experience if you're hoping for something more polished. Overall, it's worth giving it a go if you're in the area and fancy a relaxed local haunt, but maybe temper your expectations for a full-on lively night – it's got heart, but it's still finding its feet in places.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The new management has really turned things around, making it a welcoming and friendly spot for a pint or a catch-up.
-
It's clean and brighter now, which makes for a more enjoyable visit compared to what it used to be.
-
They've started serving food and have outside tables, plus it's great for families with kids and dogs – think bouncy castles and treats for the pups.
-
A decent selection of drinks on offer, and it's open every day from midday till midnight, which is handy for a spontaneous night out.
-
Folks have noted a good local vibe, especially with recent improvements that make it feel like a proper community hub.
Cons
-
There have been a few grumbles about beer not always being available, which is a bit of a letdown for a pub.
-
Some experiences mention staff not being fully engaged, like being on their phone, which can make the atmosphere feel a tad flat.
-
The furniture is on the older side and could do with an update, as it's described as broken or worn in places.
-
It can sometimes feel empty or lacking in energy, especially if you're after a lively, buzzing crowd.

Under new management, a clean friendly pub now serving food and has a few outside tables. Children and dog friendly free bouncy castle and dog treats.
Now reopened..cleaner, brighter, friendlier..
Give it a go, a good "local" pub 👍
It's a great pub but they have never got any beer
Great atmosphere and selection of drinks. Can't wait for them to start serving food.
Walked into a empty bar with a young boy kicking a football up against the wall in side. The barmaid was wearing her jacket and on her phone the whole time we were there. No music playing and tables and chairs are very old and broken and need replacing. Barmaid drinking what looks like a alcoholic drink as served us.Very forgettable atmosphere won't be returning.
