About This Pub

Ah, Eastham Ferry – it's one of those places that warms your heart with its rich history and community spirit, tucked away in a scenic spot near Eastham Country Park. From what I've gathered chatting about it, the food really steals the show; folks rave about the generous portions, like that cracking pork belly Sunday lunch or the Mediterranean-inspired twists on classic British fare, all at prices that won't leave you sticker-shocked. It's clear they've put effort into creating a welcoming vibe with friendly faces behind the bar and a drinks menu that pairs perfectly with the meals. But, let's be honest, it's not all smooth sailing – some have had frustrations with service, like meals coming out in dribs and drabs or having to fetch your own plate, which can take the edge off an otherwise lovely visit. Overall, if you're after a spot for a relaxed catch-up with mates or a family meal, it's got plenty going for it, especially with their fun events and commitment to local suppliers, but I'd say it's worth going in with realistic expectations to enjoy the highs and navigate the occasional low.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely spot on – think delicious, well-cooked dishes with huge portions that leave you feeling satisfied, like that tender pork belly or the garden menu favourites.
  • Prices are really reasonable, making it a great spot for a casual meal without breaking the bank.
  • It's clean, scenic, and full of character, set in a historic location that's perfect for a relaxed day out, with lovely decor and even luxurious toilets that add a nice touch.
  • The staff are friendly and welcoming, adding to that community feel, and they've got a good selection of drinks, including wines and craft ales that pair brilliantly with the meals.
  • They've brought back a sense of tradition with events like Greek nights and live music, making it a lively place for gatherings and celebrations.
Cons
  • Service can be inconsistent, with some experiences involving long waits for food, like one group waiting 40 minutes between the first and last meal, which puts a damper on things.
  • For certain menus, you end up carrying your own food from the bar, which feels a bit DIY and not as seamless as you'd hope.
  • There have been mixed experiences over time, with a few visits feeling underwhelming despite recent improvements, so it might not always hit the mark.

Nice and clean great place and a great choice of menus. Prices that are very reasonable. The food was delicious and delivered in good time. You get a bleeper to let you know when your food is ready for the garden menu. You have to carry it out yourself, The staff just leave it on the bar. That does not bother me as the food and location is very nice. Patio area could do with a little tidy up but that's me being picky.

Pork belly Sunday lunch was an absolute treat, the pork was tender and crackling perfect. Generous portions of roast spuds and veg, topped off with a large Yorkshire. Quick service and staff lovely. Scenic venue, fabulous decor and luxurious toilets.

I've praised and criticised this venue in equal measures over the years, through numerous management changed, and re launches. Some good, most not so. Our fourth visit under the new regime, and if I'm totally honest, we've been fairly underwhelmed previously. However, today's experience has made me rethink the frequency of future visits. The food today was up there with the best we have ever had, anywhere, and was only £20 for two courses! The fish & chips would make Harry Ramsden green with envy. Cooked to perfection, and served with a smile. The new Chef is doing a fantastic job. The cheesecake was really authentic, and tasted divine. Great service, fantastic food, beautiful surroundings, all very reasonably priced. What more could you possibly ask for? We'll be back very soon!

Was part of a party of 8. Was told the food would be staggered and that was understandable but not 40 minutes between the last meal and the first meal. They brought out my little girls meal 10 minutes before mine so I was left eating on my own and I had to leave her to go outside and play (these were on the same order) as she has waited an hour for her food after being told by a member of staff when asked 40 minutes before that her food was next.

OMG this place has finally found someone to love it and bring it to life. We went for Garden menu one night which was amazing. Huge portions and perfectly presented and cooked. We checked out the breakfast menu and came back to spoil ourselves and were not disappointed. Once again everything was cooked to perfection. Service was impeccable both visits and were just so happy to have a decent place to dine close to us.
