About This Pub

Ah, Dodgin's Yard – what a cracking little spot it is, tucked away on the Fish Quay with those gorgeous views of the River Tyne. I've got to say, the food really steals the show; they're all about using fresh, locally caught ingredients from their own trawler, and it shows in every bite. Whether it's a hearty breakfast to start the day or those standout seafood dishes like sea bream or monkfish, everything comes out perfectly cooked and full of flavour – no wonder folks keep raving about it. The team behind the bar and in the kitchen are an absolute delight, always up for a chat and making sure you're looked after, which adds to that cosy, welcoming feel. On the flip side, it's a small place, so if you're planning a catch-up with friends, you might find yourselves a bit elbow-to-elbow with the next table, and it could get lively on busier evenings. All in all, it's a top choice for anyone after a solid meal in a friendly setting – I'd definitely pop back for another go at their Sunday lunch specials, but maybe book ahead to snag a spot.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely spot on, with fresh, locally sourced seafood that's a real treat – think delicious fish and chips or monkfish that leaves you wanting more.
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and attentive, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
  • It's got a cosy, intimate vibe with stunning views of the River Tyne, perfect for a relaxed meal with mates.
  • Portions are generous and the prices are fair for the quality, so you get great value without breaking the bank.
Cons
  • The space is quite small, which means tables are packed in close together, so it can feel a bit cramped if you're after some privacy.
  • Being such a popular spot, it might get busy, and you could end up waiting or feeling the squeeze during peak times.

Great food, we've visited several times over the past 4 years. Most recent visit 2 weeks ago, march. Absolutely brilliant fish and chips, just look at it!!!!

My first time here. A small restaurant but with a good vibe. The food was excellent. It was a quiet period, but fantastic.

First visit here, lovely little place, friendly staff and food was yummy. My first time trying monkfish, and I wasn't disappointed. MASSIVE fat chips, and sadly we couldn't finish our plates. Highly recommended 👌

Great food and service totally worth the money, served by Heather who was really friendly and had a nice chat with us. Kyle cooked the lobster perfectly. And also a big thanks to Lee behind the bar. Would definitely come back.

Very small place but dont let that put you off. The plates of food were generous and tasty. Some nice reductions and puree here without being silly or poncy so good stuff. The tables are very close together so if you have anything secret to talk about use pen and paper but a nice small friendly place with parking out side.
