About This Pub

Oh, let me tell you about Allard's on the Quay – it's one of those places that just hits the spot for a good meal and a chat with mates. From what I've gathered from folks' experiences, the food is a real highlight; you've got everything from hearty burgers and fresh fish to tapas deals that won't break the bank, all made with quality local ingredients. The service seems genuinely friendly and efficient, which always makes a big difference when you're out for a bite. And don't get me started on the drinks – their cocktails are spot on, especially with those happy hour offers that make it feel like a cheeky treat. It's got that casual café vibe by day that turns into a fun nightspot with DJs at the weekend, so whether you're popping in for lunch or staying for a dance, it's versatile. That said, it's not without its little niggles; a few mentions of waits for food or slight hiccups with breakfast mean it might not be perfect every time, especially if it's heaving. All in all, though, it's a solid choice for anyone in North Shields looking for a place with great grub and a welcoming feel – I'd say give it a go if you're in the area, but maybe avoid the rush hours for the best experience.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely spot on – think juicy burgers, fresh fish, and generous portions that leave you feeling well satisfied.
  • Service is warm and attentive, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
  • They've got a cracking selection of cocktails and drinks, plus fun deals like happy hours with tapas and pizzas that make it great value.
  • The atmosphere is lively, especially in the evening with local DJs spinning tunes, turning it into a proper night out spot.
  • It's in a brilliant location by the quay in Tynemouth, perfect for a stroll and then settling in for some grub.
Cons
  • There might be a bit of a wait for food or tables during peak times, as one visit mentioned it taking a little longer than expected.
  • Breakfast options could sometimes fall short, like if you're keen on it but find things not quite ready when they open.
  • It can get busy, especially with events like matches on, which might make it feel a tad crowded if you're after a quiet pint.

I came last week (27/3/25) and had lunch with a friend, brilliant service and the lunch portion was very substantial. I came with another friend this week (4/4/25) and wanted to have some breakfast since I was keen to try it since I saw it on the menu however when Allards did open the doors I was disappointed to find that breakfast isn’t served at the fish quay premises because of the lack of foot fall (I get it, I work in hospitality). If breakfast isn’t an option why is it being advertised on the menu outside the door? It won’t deter me from coming back but it’s just a shame that’s all.

We met friends for drinks on a Saturday evening. Match was on but it wasn't uncomfortably busy. Party on upstairs but that didn't affect the evening at all. We decided to stay and order some tapas. We were told there would be a wait but it wasn't long at all. We ordered 6 dishes between 4 people and some chips and dip and everything was absolutely beautiful. Service was fantastic. Staff lovely, atmosphere was good, cocktails superb.

Popped in after a walk by the sea, big variety on the menu, large portions, burger was really juicy and good quality meat, the fish was the best I’ve had, fresh, white and fell apart, chips were also unreal (fries and chunky cooked chips). Great location, clean, pretty and modern inside. Nice friendly staff, will 100 percent be back again! Also dog friendly - ruby approves 😝
